Someone explain to me why this would make any sense to Philly? hes slated to make around $2.5 mill this season and is eligible for arbitration next season, but hes a 31 year old RP with a 3.76 ERA and converting around 80% of his save ops thus far, the only benefit i see of him moving to Citizen's Bank park is his flyball/groundball ratio (only given up 3 dingers so far this year), but still what purpose would he serve in the Philly bullpen now that Lidge is back and Madson is back in the set up role, also JC Romero has had a solid season not to mention they just got back Clay Condrey and newly acquired Chan Ho Park, and and then throw into the equation that Brett Myers is way ahead of schedule and albeit a shot in the dark, but talks are he could potentially be back by the end of the season, which leaves for a pretty crowded roation with Hamels, JA Happ, Joe Blanton, Jamie Moyer, Rodrigo Lopez and Brett Myers...
can someone weigh in here?...
i see this got moved here (dead zone) but ill bite anyway.
for 2.5 mil, qualls is cheap. durbin is on the dl, romero is on the dl, and condrey is on the dl and is probably the furthest away. you can never have too many good bullpen arms and i dont think qualls would have been that expensive. needless to say, the trade didnt happen, but dont be surprised to see the phillies add another solid bullpen arm (think eyre from last season) and/or a backup middle infielder. bruntlett needs to go.
