Pitching for Batting Trade

Postby Guest » Tue May 21, 2002 5:01 am

I have a strong pitching staff and my batting is weaker. I'm currently 2nd in RBI's and HR's, but 6th and 7th in SB and Avg.
I'm looking to trade a pitcher for a batter, but need some advice.
Here is my lineup:

Marrero, Eli STL C
Gil, Geronimo BAL C
Bagwell, Jeff HOU 1B
Mora, Melvin BAL 2B
Chavez, Eric OAK 3B
Rodriguez, Alex TEX SS
Kearns, Austin CIN OF
Anderson, Garret ANA OF
Jeromy Burnitz NY Mets OF
Guerrero, Vladimir MON OF
Bautista, Danny ARI OF
David Eckstein ANI Utility
Hinske, Eric TOR Utility

IR:
Pudge
David Justice

Pitching (Currently 7th in ERA, 4th in K's. 5th in Saves, 4th in Wins)

Glavine, Tom ATL P
Wells, David NYY P
Julio, Jorge BAL P
Irabu, Hideki TEX P
Johnson, Randy ARI P
Prior, Mark CHC P
Wickman, Bob CLE P
Perez, Odalis LA P
Padilla, Vicente PHI P

Here are some lineups that I'm targeting for batters:

Team #1:

Burks, Ellis
Edmonds, Jim
Encarnacion, Juan
Fick, Robert
Jordan, Brian
Kent, Jeff
Konerko, Paul
Lofton, Kenny
Mientkiewicz, Doug
Pujols, Albert
Rollins, Jimmy
Stewart, Shannon
Varitek, Jason

Team #2:

Batista, Tony
Cirillo, Jeff
Damon, Johnny
Drew, J.D.
Duca, Paul Lo
Hall, Toby
Jones, Chipper
Toby Hall
Knoblauch, Chuck
Larkin, Barry
Ortiz, Jose
Sweeney, Mike

Do you see any trades that I could either make with Team #1 or Team #2 (my pitching for batting) Or should I just hold tight?

It's always worth a try. I'd start by asking the other teams what the price for Kent or Damon would be, see how they respond, and take things from there.

Roy Halladay

Postby Guest » Thu May 23, 2002 6:14 pm

Is Roy Halladay the real thing?

If you think so, should I pick him up? I think my pitching rotation is pretty good with some recent transaction. Here's the breakdown:

Pitching (Currently 6th in ERA, 2th in K's. 5th in Saves, 2th in Wins)

Glavine, Tom ATL P
Wells, David NYY P
Johnson, Randy ARI P
Prior, Mark CHC P
Perez, Odalis LA P
Padilla, Vicente PHI P
Julio, Jorge BAL P
Irabu, Hideki TEX P
Wickman, Bob CLE P

My ERA is 3.571 but since I recently dropped Eric Milton and Kelvin Escobar it should be better in the next month.

K's, I think I'm good with Big Unti and Prior, but Halladay does have a lot of K's.

Saves, risky guys since Wickman may go down and Irabu and Julio are not established. I'm 15 saves behind the leader, but they have Rivera and Graves, so there's no chance.

Wins, close to the top.

What should I do?

see the Halladay thread - I think he's for real (after petben's prodding :-> ). With uncertainties surrounding Wells' health, picking up Halladay looks like a sound move.

It's tough to just drop someone like Wells, but I'd do it in this case. There's no telling how long Halladay will remain available.

You're probably not getting quite large enough an upgrade to justify trading Glavine. If, however, you can get another solid sp as a free agent, then I'd probably do this.

Chipper Jones

Postby Guest » Fri Jun 21, 2002 10:35 am

What do you think about Chipper Jones this year? His power is down, but I figure it may be a good time to get him since his HR's numbers are down. My outfield consists of:

Kearns, Austin CIN OF
Finley, Steve ARI OF
Anderson, Garret ANA OF
Guerrero, Vladimir MON OF
Salmon, Tim OF

So I feel that I could use him and drop Kearns or Finley.

If you're interested in acquiring Chipper, now would certainly be a good time, although his greatest value is still at 3b, not of. Nonetheless, if you can get him, he should be an upgrade over either Kearns or Finley. If you don't have to pay too much for him, this looks like a good move.
