Gosh yes. This is Kershaw's first year, and he's going to get worn down, shut down, or whathaveyou, being as inefficient as he is. I should start shopping him in my 8 team redraft, come to think of it.
And Howell over Wood, too? Giddy up.
I have no idea how you'll play out your hitting rosters after the deal, but Gonz is a heckuva backup. Maybe you could do Gonz or Miggy and Rollins for Hanley and change?
pretty surprised at these answers considering that gonzo has been in a huge funk and will be benched from time to time now, and kershaw has been lights out
Definitely make this deal. Howell > Wood IMO, so it's basically Kershaw for AGonz which I'd do immediately even with Adrian struggling and being a 2nd half slouch.
Hal·la·day, n. 1. every fifth day in Philadelphia. 2. a day of rest for the bullpen. 3. innings eater. 4. doc. 5. ace.
Howell >Wood is the easy part. You obviously don't need AGonz, since he would spend most of his time on your bench. For you it's not a question of who's the better player, because AGonz is, but which player is a better fit for your team. And for you I thinks it's Kershaw, unless you would want to flip AGonz, or another player, for another SP.

I don't even care about gonzalez's slump/2nd half career numbers. I am avoiding gonzalez as a buy low target because the rest of the padres lineup around him is AAA caliber. Teams have no reason to pitch to him so I see no reason they would change their approach, especially if it is a contender.

Trust me I definitely understand your reasoning.

Sincerely, I own and use Kershaw in an 8-team redraft league, but c'mon, I'd take this in a heartbeat. You could then resell Gonzalez for a better pitcher than you could have gotten for Kershaw himself, or you waiver watch for an SP and make sure you've got an allstar lineup even with an injury to an OF or a 1B--b/c Gonz can slide Ich to the OF, of course.
