Trade Bench for Pitching - WHIR

Postby theinflatinator91 » Sat Jul 18, 2009 2:41 pm

10 team head-2-head league; currently in third place, and top four teams make the playoffs.

hitting categories - R, H, 1B, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, BB, TB, E, AVG, OBP, SLG, PA

pitching categories - IP, W, L, CG, SHO, SV, H, ER, BB, K, ERA, WHIP, K/BB, K/9, QS

my offense is absolutely staked even to the point where my bench would be starting on most teams around the league. it has been annoying the hell out of me trying to figure out who to start nights and seeing the studs that i bench go 2-4 with a homer...that being said, my pitching is weak but not awful so i think i would like to clear some space out and add some depth pitching wise. Pitching usually dominates this league during the playoffs.

C Bengie Molina
1B Lance Berkman
2B Brian Roberts
3B Mark Reynolds
SS Hanley Ramírez
OF Carlos Lee
OF Jason Bay
OF Curtis Granderson
Util B.J. Upton
Util Justin Upton
BN Alexei Ramírez (would like to keep)
BN Michael Young
BN Jason Bartlett
BN Ben Zobrist (would like to keep)
BN Matt Wieters

Would you send out a big name (ie. Lee, Granderson, or Bay) since i have the backups such as Alexei and Zobrist? Or would you go about trading guys like Alexei and Zobrist for lesser pitchers?

SP Justin Verlander
SP Yovani Gallardo
SP Kevin Millwood
SP John Lackey
SP Jordan Zimmermann
RP Brian Wilson
RP Frank Francisco
P Francisco Cordero
P Andrew Bailey
BN Rick Porcello
DL Joey Devine

I was looking for a top of the line closer for some better ratios, and an ace pitcher to accompany Verlander, Gallardo, and Lackey. I would not be opposed to toss in Zimmermann or Millwood alongside a slugger.

What do you think? 100% WHIR, just leave a link please.

I'd trade Lee, whose name value exceeds his current production. I'd give the other guy his choice of Young or Alexei, again better names than values. With Zobrist, you don't care about losing one of the other two SSs.

That pairing should get you someone very fun. I'd ask for any pitcher you wished. Even Lince.

I agree Carlos Lee is easily expendable with this line up. With Reynold's 1B eligibility I would consider trading Berkman as well. Depending on how the rest of the league looks could make out with someone on Felix Hernandez's level, Lincecum seem untouchable in every league I'm in but offer the manager, he might bite.

That was what I was thinking. I just updated my trade block and posted a message.

I got the following hit.

Justin Morneau and Chad Billingsley for my Carlos Lee and Lance Berkman...

Other pitchers he has worth grabbing include: Johnny Cueto, Adam Wainwright, Scott Kazmir...

Lincecum is a no go. The owner has DiceK, and Peavy on DL...

I would take that deal, but I would also try very quickly to tack on Alexei and Wainwright first. But that first deal is a winner. The best hitter and a great staff ace for players you can replace?
