I get Zach Duke, he gets R. Soriano... fair value? - WHIR

Postby Bwanna » Sat Jul 18, 2009 12:42 pm

12-team roto redraft league. Currently, I have comfortable lead in saves (+11 with 66) with these closers. I could use some help in W's, so I posted as such on the trading block and was offered Zach Duke for Soriano. Thoughts?

My staff:
Jered Weaver (LAA - P)
Brad Bergesen (Bal - P)
Cole Hamels (Phi - P)
Ubaldo Jimenez (Col - P)
Wandy Rodriguez (Hou - P)
Edwin Jackson (Det - P)
Shaun Marcum (Tor - P) DL
Tim Hudson (Atl - P) DL

Rafael Soriano (Atl - P)
Ryan Franklin (StL - P)
Brad Lidge (Phi - P)
Andrew Bailey (Oak - P)

His staff:
Joel Pineiro (StL - P)
Adam Wainwright (StL - P)
Roy Oswalt (Hou - P)
Zach Duke (Pit - P)
Ryan Dempster (ChC - P) DL
Kevin Slowey (Min - P) DL

Hiroki Kuroda (LAD - P)
Mike Gonzalez (Atl - P)
David Aardsma (Sea - P)
LaTroy Hawkins (Hou - P)
Leo Nunez (Fla - P)
Brad Ziegler (Oak - P)
Jon Rauch (Ari - P)
Mark Lowe (Sea - P)

I think your 11 point lead in saves is enough that you can feel comfortable doing this. I don't have his numbers in front of me, but I think Duke has been pitching pretty well lately. As long as you feel comfortable enough with your lead in saves, I would pull the trigger.

hmm, tough call... I know Duke has been solid thus far but commad guys like that seem to be hit and miss... +11 in saves should warrant this move however as Duke shouldn't hurt your peripherals that much... Granted, he isn't very big on the old strikeout....

Fair value for sure...

Duke would probably not help you that much in wins. He already has more wins this year than each of the past two years, and he plays on the Pirates so he won't be getting that much run support. If he's the best SP you think you can get than I'd do it, but otherwise I'd hold out for more.

Personally, I'm of the same opinion, just wanted to see what others thought. In my opinion, Duke is over-valued due to his first half, and I'm thinking he won't get me more than 4 W's the rest of the year, if that. Soriano is pitching lights out, and has all but claimed the closer spot, especially with Gonzo's injury.

Everything about your thought process is great---except for the return on Soriano. I'd hold out for a better pitcher.

Agreed with the previous poster. Let Soriano rack up a few more saves for you while you shop him.

Actually, I had no intention of shopping Soriano. He made the offer.

I agree that Duke is overvalued. I'd certainly shop Soriano, but I'd shoot for a better SP. I like the guys that can get a punchout when needed.

Heres mine

Any chance you could try for a Carpenter? His owner might be fearing the injury.

Is Oswalt's owner scared still--too scared to reap the huge second half?

What about Ubaldo and his Ks?
