A friend and me have been kicking around trade ideas all year. He came to me today with this one:
UPDATED!
I give up: Howard, A. Soriano, Ethier, Rollins I get: Braun, M. Cabrera, Ellsbury
League is a 10 team 5x5 H2H Keeper league (6 keepers.) Now, Im getting the best players in the deal, but all 4 of my hitters are starting to heat up finally, and two of his hitters are under .200 for the last two weeks. Im actually leaning towards not doing it, but Im thinking that if I do I'll have better keepers going into next year. What do you guys think? Im hurting badly in AVG, dead last in the league. It would get rid of my two biggest AVG killers in Howard and Soriano, without losing too much pop.
My Team:
C: Wieters 1B: Howard 2B: Phillips 3B: Wright SS: H Ramirez OF: A Soriano OF: Ethier OF: Rivera UT: Rollins UT: Morgan BN: Ortiz BN: Rolen BN: A. Cabrera BN: Soto (DL)
Yeah, that's quite a few big names you're throwing around there. Looks like you're giving up 4 for 2, which I don't like. Who plays your 3rd OF spot once Soriano and Ethier are gone? Would you plug in Rolen to 3B if you trade Wright?
Something simple I like to do when analyzing a trade when offering/receiving an offer. Take a few minutes, sit back, and imagine your team as it would look once the trade is done. Would you still have holes? Is your team better for having made the trade? Will the WW sustain any new weaknesses that my team has? It sounds like simple stuff, but it really goes a long way.
Long story short, I'd turn down this trade as is, and try to even out the field as far as the players/postions are concerned.
Well would be Howard/Soriano/Ethier/Rollins, for Braun/MCab/Ellsbury-Theriot, depending on what I could get him to agree to. So if I can get Ells, my OF would be Braun, Rivera, Ellsbury, with Morgan backing up for some extra SB. Also Kubel is on the WW, so there's another decent OF option. Youre right though, getting Theriot wouldnt do me much good, would leave me with only 3 OF and no backup.
I get: MCab, Braun, Ellsbury I give: Howard, Rollins, Ethier, Soriano

Heh, funny part is Ethier was the one I didnt care that much about giving up. Soriano was the sticking point for me. If I take Ethier out he'll demand Rivera, which is.. ehh.. either way.
When is your trade deadline? I would wait on trading J Roll. He is starting to heat up. He will be worth so much more once he has a great month behind him. You are selling short. That is my opinion.
give me braun, m-cab and ellsbury hands down. I like rollins a lot, but ellsbury gives you everything but the power potential of rollins. thus it's braun and cabrera for howard, soriano and ethier. while howard cancels out one of braun or cabrera, the other is worth much more than soriano and ethier.
