Alfonso Soriano/Dunn/Jones Trade, WHIR 100%

Postby Bravos of Steel » Fri Jul 17, 2009 4:49 pm

Guys, I've been offered Adam Dunn, Adam Jones, Roy Oswalt, and Nick Blackburn for my Alfonso Soriano, Jon Lester, and Matt Garza. Now, I will say I'm sick of Soriano, but I feel like Jones is a sell high type guy. Should I take this deal? I really take some pride in my starting rotation, but I need some help. Leave a link, I'll give you my best.

It's a good offer. You can spare the pitching and while I love Lester, Oswalt has a reputation for being a second half beast. If OPS or OBP (especially) count then this is a no brainer as Dunn is a stud in such settings, but even still I think it targets you needs well. The only thing that might keep me from saying to pull the trigger would be that you could probably deal a SS more easily and see a bigger offensive gain. With 3 SS worthy of starting gigs, someone should be in need. Why not sent Tejada or Furcal their way for a stronger OF and move Zobrist full time to SS? Even if you take this deal, I highly suggest trying to swing something like that.

This looks like a good deal. I like Oswalt as well from here on out, and Blackburn really is a nice steady, if quiet, pitcher. I feel like you moving your two pitchers for those isn't too bad at all. You didn't indicate if this is a keeper league or not. If so, Jones has that much more value to you, while Soriano seems to be losing it. Dunn is actually a nice addition to this trade. Good deal for you.

Very much agreed with the above posters. I dont believe Jones is a sell high guy at all. He's been highly touted for years, and has shown flashes in the past, and is now settling into who he will. I think he will be a stud, Im mad I didnt grab him. To me Oswalt > Lester, and Blackburn is a decent pitcher in return. Again, if its a keeper, its a no brainer.

Help with mine:

I agree with the other posters that this could be a good trade for you. I like Dunn and Oswalt a lot. Oswalt is a great second half pitcher. But keep in mind that Soriano is ALSO a great second half player. He hit a ton of home runs last september. So the trade could backfire if Soriano gets hot in the second half like he has in the past. But my gut would say to do the deal because I like Adam Dunn a lot. Dunn is younger than Soriano and only Albert Pujols has hit more home runs than Dunn over the past 6 years.
