As for calamari, I can imagine giant squid being rubbery tough to eat. Think I'll pass.

It's algae.

If it makes you feel better to die from alien algae instead of an alien blob then more power to you. I'm really in a pickle at the moment, I had dug a moat around my house to keep away the mutant bears but now have realized that just gives the alien algae perfect access to invade my home.

Fill the moat with oil I'm pretty sure algae and oil don't get along
