Seems like a no-brainer that I should accept, only thing holding me back is consideration of our league's set-up.
It's a 12-team h2h, 6x6 (standard cats + OPS & K/9) and player values increase $5 each year, total salary max for whole roster is $220. Hill will only be $10 for me next year, Utley would be $44. But anyways, I want to win THIS year and Utley obviously is superior to Hill even though their numbers were sort of comparable over the 1st half. I should just accept this anyways, right?

you have to accept this. bruce is out for who knows how long and at $18 he is not a good keeper for next year. that means bruce has no value whatsoever in this trade. hill is a nice player but he's maybe a 15 dollar player next year. $5 savings isnt enough to turn down utley's guaranteed monster numbers in the 2nd half. play to win now and take utley. maybe even squeeze another tiny piece out of him as well.
Agreed, that $44 actually puts Utley right at what his value would probably be in next year's auction... that does work for me, although yeah, I would only call it amazing if I had him at $21 or something.
The guys on the Fantasy411 podcast always say "flags fly forever," so giving up keeper value to obtain elite players is usually the way to go. I do like the fact that since Utley would probably go for $44 or more in next year's auction, I can just hang onto him and won't even have to bother with the bidding war.
I like Hill a lot, but there's a chance he'll regress some. I'd be very surprised to see him have 20 homers in the 2nd half too, that would put him at 40 for the year ... now, THAT would be amazing!
