How to calculate the value of batting average

Postby dwightford420 » Wed Jul 15, 2009 6:48 pm

I play in a 10 team, 5x5, rotisserie dynasty league with a $100,000,000 cap per team. I want to calculate the earnings of players to date, and for the counting categories I have decided to divide $100,000,000 by the total number of HR from each team to get the value of each HR. I can repeat this for each counting category, but I got stuck when I got to batting average. I could not determine how to calculate the value of a batting average when there are two factors involved, the number of hits for each player and the number of AB. A player with a batting average of .310 over 200 AB would be more valuable than an average of .310 over 150 AB, but how can I quantify that? I would do the same for ERA and WHIP but I can take that step once I figure this out. Does anyone have any suggestions, or an idea of a better way to calculate values?

You need to convert batting average into a counting stat. To do so, determine the replacement level batting average and how many hits that is per each batters current batting average. Then subtract his current hits from the replacement level hits and that is your counting stat.

You could go to http://baseballmonster.com set the league settings to only avg. Set value type to Per At Bat/Per Inning Value and in display filters only hitters:
