Best Pitches in Majors

Postby jake_twothousandfive » Wed Jul 15, 2009 4:04 pm

Mark DiFelice's crazy cutter/screwball mystery pitch got me thinking. Who has the most unhittable pitch in the MLB and who has the best cutter, curve, slider, etc.?

My Initial Thoughts:
Best Change-up: Johan Santana
Best Fastball: Tim Lincecum
Best Curve: Roy Halladay
Best Cutter: Mariano Rivera
Best Slider: Felix Hernandez/Zach Greinke
Best Knuckleball: Tim Wakefield
Misc.: Mark DiFelice

And I'd give Rivera's cutter the nod as the most unhittable pitch among the group.

Any thoughts? This was just a rough, off the top of my head type of list. Not a lot of thought went into it.

sinker - Lowe/healthy Webb

I'm not convinced that Mo's cutter is the most unhittable. It gets hit all the time, it just breaks your bat when you do hit it...

I'd probably go with Hoffman/Hamels on change up and King Felix on fastball. Also, Carpenter has a pretty good curve.

That thread's from 2007. Things have changed since then.

I didn't take it as Dan saying "Yawn, been there, done that." More of pointing in a direction in case people care to read (Dan, I'm giving you benefit of doubt here; don't F up :-b). I actually tried to find that thread myself, but I am pathetic with the forum's search engine. :-D

I'd also toss Smoltz name into the slider group
