Looking for Advice (best value for rest of season) WHIR!

Postby attaraxia » Wed Jul 15, 2009 9:08 am

I am in a 8 v 8 non keeper H2H 5x5 normal yahoo league.

the 7th place team is 12 games out of first, i am in 4th and 5 games out of first.
Everyone is close in this league.

we start C, 1b, 2b, ss, 3b, of, of, of, util for batting
& Sp, Sp, Rp, Rp, P, P, P for pitching

this is my current team
C - Posada, Benjie Molina
1b) Teixeira,(Casey Blake, but he is currently on his way out, i am trying to claim lirano off waivers)
2b) Utley
3b) Aramis ramirez, Ryan Zimmerman
SS) J. Bartlett
OF) Josh Hamilton, Andre Ethier, Jermain Dye, Ben Zobrist (Also eligible for SS and 2B), M. Bourn, V. Guerrero, S. Victorino

SP) Lincecum, Carpenter, Cain, Nolasco, Harden, Lilly, Duke (remember im trying to claim Lirano off waivers, i have 5th waiver priority currently)

RP) Papelbon, Nathan

So my linc trade was accepted but doesnt go thru till Friday the 17th.. i used to have Bay, E. Jackson & O. Hudson.. I got Lincecum and Victorino

Some Notable free agents are: J. Rivera, G. Atkins, A Huff, M Cuddyer, C Ross, Loney, Morales, N Morgan, S. Rolen, R. Theriot

free agent pitchers are: A Bailey, R. Romero, Joel Pinero, R Wells, S Richmond, N. Blackburn, B Myers, S Baker, M Scherzer..

So what i am asking is, what do you guys think i should do to strengthen my team at this point, and who should i be starting week in and week out. I obviously have my own theory but i would love to see the advice of others. Thanks for all your help guys, this website rocks!

No moved I would make w/ the current makeup...Just drop Duke for Liriano like you are trying to do...Give Liriano a start or two, if he sucks, go for someone else...

Thanks for replying to my post....

After looking at the WW I just don't see why Huff/Rivera/Bailey/Scherzer/Baker/Wells/Romero are not owned?...lol

After looking at your roster though you have Bourn who I would drop and Blake who you had said you were dropping already. I however wouldn't pick up Liriano considering the talent that's on the WW.

If you want to grab that RP that we mentioned then I would grab Bailey ASAP and most likely grab Rivera over Bourn. I wish you could grab Huff also as he is primed for a great 2nd half but there is no room or need for him on your team.

I would also keep an eye on Duke and or already swap him out with either Romero, Scherzer, Baker, Wells (in that order)!

Hope this helps......Private message me if you need any further help or have any other questions and I will be glad to help!

thanks for advice..

what do most teams do? 4 starters and 3 relief or 5 starters and 2 relief.. my league has been mostly 5 starters and 2 relief for each team.

I actually like having at least 3 RP's......I am also glad that I did this year as well just because now I am facing a couple that are possibly going to get traded or moved somehow and then I would be stuck!

Heck, in one league I have "4" RP's......I actually like it alot though because I have never loss the ERA/WHIP/SAVES catagory ever! With relief pitchers your not going to get as many K's or innings pitched but they are great for the 3 CATS (S/Whip/ERA).....so as long as you have some top SP's or depth at SP then I would suggest at least 3 RP's.

I really want to solidify my team even more.. what type of trades do you think i could make?
this is only an 8x8 league, but i thin i have some value on my bench that other teams might possibly need.

im trying to get a catcher to replace posada.. i wanted pablo sandoval.. he is currently on the last place team, but he doesnt seem to want to let him go. Joe mauer is on the 2nd place team and when i asked him if he would trade him and what he would look for, he told me he was untouchable, he also has inge, but inge seems to be fading. I just offered a 1 to 1 deal sending b. molina for russel, but his normal catcher from the cubs just got put on the dl so i think he will decline.

With the team i have, how can i improve catcher without giving up to much. Victor martinez is on the 1st place team, and i have not inquired there, though i feel he is a big red sox fan and might be biased against any trade that gives him posada lol..
my 2 biggest concerns are: posada gets hurt alot, and does not play every day.
should this even worry me, or should i work on something else.. here is the scoring breakdown this year.

I didn't read all the replies, but get Randy Wells ASAP. I have him on my team and he has had literally 1 bad start since being called up. I think he gave up 4 or 5 runs in 3.2 IP. Other than that he pretty much a quality start every time out. I would drop one of your OF, you don't need that many.
