Longoria for Crawford/Young?

Postby nyrblue2 » Tue Jul 14, 2009 9:56 pm

I was just offered the following trade:

I give: Evan Longoria
I get: Carl Crawford/Michael Young

12 team H2H (keep 7) - R, HR, RBI, SB, TB, AVG, OPS......W, L, SV, K, ERA, WHIP, K/BB

Now I now normally it's never the best idea to give up the best player in the deal, which is definitely Longoria here. Add in the fact that he is a sure-fire keeper and I might be crazy for trading him. However, I have the second lowest cummulative SB total in the league and Crawford would certainly help that. I'm also hurting a bit for OF, since Beltran is on the DL, Maggs has pretty much been a bust and Sheff isn't playing full time (even less with Francouer going to NYM). However, I have still managed to stay in first place for pretty much the whole season, even with Beltran and Ibanez on the shelf for a long time. I'm definitely leaning towards rejecting, mainly due the "best player in the deal" factor, as well as knowing that I suceeded through injuries and now I have Ibanez back (and hopefully Beltran in a month or so). Hell, I can probably just drop Randy Johnson and take the best available OF for when Sheff/Maggs don't play.

C: Pablo Sandoval (C,1B,3B)
1B: Derrek Lee (1B)
2B: Robinson Cano (2B)
3B: Evan Longoria (3B)
SS: Miguel Tejada (SS)
OF: Alfonso Soriano (OF), Gary Sheffield (OF), Raul Ibanez (OF)
Util: James Loney (1B)
BN: Magglio Ordonez (OF), Rafael Furcal (SS), Carlos Beltran (OF - DL)
DL: Carlos Delgado (1B)

SP: Javier Vazquez (SP), Johan Santana (SP)
RP: Brian Wilson (RP), Heath Bell (RP)
P: Octavio Dotel (RP), Aaron Harang (SP), Kevin Correia (SP,RP)
BN: Derek Lowe (SP), Wandy Rodriguez (SP), Randy Wolf (SP)
DL: Randy Johnson (SP)

Thoughts? All help is appreciated...

Crawford + Young is a nice return, and both would be potential keepers on your squad. The only thing that would make me hesitate is the fact that I don't think your team has excess power to spare either. I'd probably pass on this and look for a better deal. Longoria is an elite level keeper..

Hmm...I definitely see your logic, in that Longoria is the better player in the deal, especially keeper-wise...but if you're thinking more for this year, I say go for it. Plug in Young at 3b to replace Longoria and you'll lose some RBIs and HRs, but everything else should be pretty equal (avg, runs, etc.), maybe even better with Young - and Longoria's seemed a little dinged lately. And Crawford's SBs would be HUGE for you, plus it would fix your outfield Sheff/Mags conundrum.

So, I'd lean towards doing it.
