Felix (sell high?) for Markakis (buy low?) ** WHIR**

Postby baseketball4life » Tue Jul 14, 2009 2:57 am

14 teamer, h2h, 5x5 cats. I just lost Bruce to injury for 2 months, my OF is BJ Upton, Nate McLouth and empty right now. Felix Hernandez, John Danks, Carlos Zambrano, Max Scherzer, Heath Bell, Brian Wilson, Chad Qualls make up the heart of my staff. i also have Chris Young SD on the Dl and a few young prospects like Tillman, Morrow, Parra, etc.

Bottomline, do I pull this trade? I have a feeling Markakis will get hot second half, despite his struggles first half still 110 Runs, 110 RBI pace with good avg. 27 doubles should mean more HRs to come... Felix feasted on the NL in interleagues, this may be his peak value. I have tried everything in my league in landing an elite OF, other offers are Carlos Lee for Felix ( don't want this I believe Lee is old, less upside than Markakis, etc.)

Felix or Markakis for value who is better for the 2nd half, and Felix v. Markakis for my team does it make sense? Please help Fast and leave link I will return the help.

It's really hard to say. Felix has been awesome this year and Markakis hasn't. There isn't anyone that you could pick up on the WW to plug into the OF?

Remember that once you lose Felix you'll be scrambling for a starter the same way that you were for an outfielder... I might make the decision based on whose available to add in the SP and OF areas. You might also ask for a SP to be thrown into the deal.

he would throw in Gio Gonzalez. And I picked up Marcus Thames for the time being, other top OF WW options are Chris Young of AZ, Mike Cameron, Josh Willingham, Milton Bradley.

The SP WW is very very thin, pretty much no one.

Value wise I think the trade isn't a bad trade. I believe you that Markakis will have a good second half and they are ranked similar in my opinion.

What I don't like is that you are giving up the only gem in your pitching staff. I think Felix will have just as good of a second half.

I think this trade depends on who you can pick up off the waiver wire in terms of outfielders and starting pitchers right now.

Where are you in the standings for this league right now? If you are on the playoff bubble, then I think I'd do this trade and hope you can stream pitchers off the waiver wire. If you have a comfortable lead and a good chance to make the playoffs, I would just look for outfield help off the waiver wire.

EDIT: with what you just posted, I would hold onto Felix if SP is very thin.

help with mine?

I'm currently in 2nd place, past 13 weeks I've gone 12-1. I'm like 10 games ahead of 4th place... top 6 of 14 make playoffs.

I think I'd stick with what you got, your pitching is too thin of ace pitchers to give up your best pitcher. Bruce may come off the DL in time to help your team come playoff time.

ended up turning this down

instead i traded Homer Bailey and Chris Tillman for Vernon Wells...

now need to drop Milledge and Thames for 2 pitchers

top choices are

Charlie Morton
Clayton Richard
Jeremy Guthrie
John Grabow
Fausto Carmona

I'm leaning towards Charlie Morton, and John Grabow (may be closer by end of month with Capps injury or trade)
