Hamels/Holliday for Braun?

Postby Thursday » Tue Jul 14, 2009 1:08 am

I was offered a trade in my league:

His Cole Hamels and Matt Holliday

for my Ryan Braun.

12-team, H2H, 6x6 league (R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG., OPS. for hitters, and W, SV, K, Holds, ERA, WHIP for pitchers).

Keeper league, we keep 4:

C - Brandon Inge
1B - Ryan Howard
2B - Chase Utley
3B - Hank Blalock
SS - Troy Tulowitzki
OF - Ryan Braun
OF - Jason Bay
OF - Jacoby Ellsbury
Util - Ryan Ludwick
B - Marco Scutaro
B - Martín Prado

SP - Lester, Kazmir, Gallardo, R. Romero, Blanton, H. Bailey
RP - F. Cordero, Capps, Wood, Sherrill, Núñez

This being a keeper league, Braun is pretty young, and I've owned him for a few years now. Holliday and Hamels are two stars that have struggled in the first half, but with two turnarounds, I'd own this league, hands-down. I'm in first, and currently enjoy a 3.5 game lead. I'm actually considering pulling the trigger here... care to pull me back from the brink of insanity, Cafe??

Wow! Well Braun would be tough to give up. I'm not much of a believer of Holiday coming out for a strong second half unless he is traded, but i could be wrong. I am a believer in Hamels having a good second half though. Two for one looks pretty good. I think i would probably end up doing it. But would be a tough one.

Thanks for the help!

It would be a definite upgrade for your starting pitching. Hamels is pitching okay now, but not All-Star level. I could see a second half rebound from him if he keeps the ball in the park. Hamels and Gallardo would make a great one-two punch for you. As for Holliday, his value definitely contingent on whether or not he gets dealt (St. Louis, New York Mets, or Boston). He is still a really good hitter even though he is in the black hole they call Oakland. I still think you get good value in return even though it is Braun you'd have to deal. I think it would better for you to look for a counter since you'd be getting Holliday and Hamels on a discount. Even though you'd get good value in return, Braun would be too steep to make that deal. I'd decline.

Seeing that you're in first, I don't know if I would go after Hamels. you definitely need to add a pitcher, but there's got to be a better option out there. It would be one thing if you were in 3rd or 4th and needed to make a jump, but with the lead, why take such a big risk? (which I honestly think hamels will continue to be). Braun is money in the bank and is your best bet for batting avg. Holliday is just another .275 guy which you already have a lot of.

in a keeper i dont like losing braun. maybe bay and blanton for hamels and holliday? bay is having a great year but kinda old.

since u are in first im hesistant to make this deal. braun hasnt even gone on a hot streak yet. otherwise id say keep him

which is why i got a steal for him branyan and adam dunn for him in my money league=)
