No, the HR Derby doesn't help players. Nor does it hurt them.

Does everyone who doesn't compete in the derby produce that exact same statistical line before and after the break? Did Burrell fall off a cliff in the second half because he watched the HR Derby?

Its a random variance in performance and once in a while its for the negative. And it also amuses me when people put up pre/post counting numbers after the derby.. ignoring that most players get 130 more at bats before the all star break due to it not actually being the halfway point. I mean Josh Hamilton had a .874 ops after the break compared to .919 before - statistically nearly meaningless, but because he had flukishly high rbi numbers before the break and flukishly low after it had people acting like he was incredibly worse.. you hear it on espn all the time. He had a 3 week peiord with like 1 or 2 rbis... in which he was hitting .300. Fluke.

Abreu hit 6 hrs after the break in the year he won the derby, 2005. Know how many he hit after the break in 2003? 6.

But uh yeah, there is no evidence that the derby hurts anyone. Most of thep layers in the derby swing for HRs in BP anyway. Its 10-40 minutes of exertion, it will tire you for a day or two but its not going to derail your freakin career!

Hahahahahahaha.....for Jusman and Maris.......the only stupid thing is that people are talking about the HR Derby and Mauer!!! lol.....yep......I'm stupid also for have gotten into this conversation.....Hahahahahahahah

I think "SKJelstrom" has hit the point!!! You can't just someones STATS by what they have done in the "PAST".......which brings me to.......(Those #'s that were quoted from the past by Mauer post AllStar break were just that.....in the past!!! Mauer hasn't shown "True" power (throughout the years) and now that we have seen that he has changed his game to include power then I see a different Mauer (at the HR Derby and after the AllStar break)

Also.......I, as well, don't know if Mauer will get to 30HR's (I hope he does).......but you have to be kidding me to say that he won't bust out 5 more. If he for some reason does not make it to 20+ then I will personally be the first one out to the Cafe stating I was wrong but mark my words......he will hit his 5 easily and the HR derby won't have the slightest impact on his back or him missing any afterbreak action!

Good day folks!......let the games begin! :-D

I never said I thought he would do bad in the Derby, and I never said he wouldn't hit 5 HR in the 2nd half.
I said it was a stupid idea given the situation of his back.
I've got him in 2 leagues and it's stupid to risk his health when they know he has issues.

I bet he'll do fine in the derby. Just don't think it's a wise move.

5HR's in the 1st round.....not too shabby considering everyone else that's out there hitting (or lack there of).....this has got to be the worst HR Derby I have ever seen.....lol

It's cool Maris......I have him in 1 league but I was just saying and I feel that Mauer knows Mauer and it was his decision to play in the Derby so I think that he wouldn't play if his back was still bothering him which leads me to he is most likely fine and hitting a few long balls won't make him any worse.....that's all!

im not saying he WONT hit 5 or more HR in the 2nd half, but i wouldnt bet on him doing it. if i was a betting man and had to put money on the line i would bet for 4 or less, but i do think 5+ is possible.
i do think IF he is going to try for more HR in the 2nd half that could likely negatively effect the AVG. im not saying if hes generating more of a power swing that the HR will decrease and the AVG will be bad, it could be more something like 4 HR and .350 AVG or 10 HR and .300 AVG.

Well.....not much work for Mauer in the Derby since he didn't last too long. Still hit 5 in the 1st round (which is more than I can say for a couple of other guys......lol......Inge.....hahahahaha).....WTF Inge!!!!

so....this shouldn't affect Mauer much and he didn't look like he was in pain afterwards....lol (except for not making it)!...hahahaha

Now, let's get to the AllStar game and then get back to the season (Where it matters) so that Mauer can pump out his 20 more HR's....lol, and keep an over .400Avg!!! Hahahahahaha......ok.....wishful thinking but hey, anything can happen!....lol
