Some random guy I saw on TV said that Spain is becoming the world mecca for haute cuisine, so if you're a foodie you owe it to yourself to get to Spain at some point in your life.

Everyone in Spain strives to be El Bulli.
I love, love, love Spanish cuisine. Catalan, Basque, Valencian, Andalucian, it's all fantastic. The best thing about Spain is the quality of the frequent Mom-and-Pop shop, hole-in-the-wall tapas bars are about the same quality of the Michelin-star restaurants there.
Oh, and one must go to Barcelona for the seafood. For me, it's the best seafood on the planet. When they cook it, they don't really do anything to it, but the product really speaks for itself, it is absolutely superb. Great, now I have an appetite for grilled octopus and blood sausage.
Oh, I forgot. Italy's ham products have got nothing, nothing on Spanish ham.

That's what I hear about Spain. I have some friends who've gone over there as well, and they all come back in love with the country and the food. I'll get there someday. Barcelona is a must.
EDIT - we should do a food exchange. I'll ship you some excellent Nebraska beef and you ship me some tapas.

My Dad is an excellent cook. I go there almost every weekend for some fantastic grilled seafood, paella, and all sorts of things. That's the best part about being raised in a biracial household, especially when both parents can cook very well. I also love my Mom's honest-to-goodness Japanese delicacies.
Here's a fairly good online mart for Spanish ham (unfortunately, it's still not legal to import them from Spain):

FTFY
But I would love to go to Tokyo, too.
Check this out for backward, my g/f WANTS to go to Tijuana, and DOESN'T want to go to Tokyo. Ever. That's called "coming from the country"
I have to go to Tokyo someday soon for many reasons. Whenever I watch the Japanese episodes of Iron Chef on Youtube, I keep thinking about the contestants' restaurants and think how divine their food must be. Like any big city, you can find any cuisine there, but from what I know, they have the highest-quality Chinese and French food in Japan.

If you stayed in Roppongi, you must certainly have gone to Osaka Jail.
