Kubel for Saaaallleeeeeee (WHIR)

Postby Airborne24 » Wed Jul 08, 2009 2:18 pm

12 team standard ESPN 5x5 H2H league, 4 OF spots. After months of waiting for players, minor trades and waiver wire hawking, my team is finally almost where I want it to be. The only thing I'm missing right now, I think, is a quality starting pitcher or two. The players I'm willing to trade are: Jason Kubel, Nolan Reimold, or Nick Swisher.

The problem is that while Kubel is the most valuable, he's also wildly underrated, as nobody seems to care that he's batting .346 with a 1.039 OPS against right handed pitchers this year.

My target is a guy who has Roy Oswalt, Ricky Nolasco, Yovani Gallardo, Tommy Hanson, Eric Bedard and Nick Blackburn among his starting pitchers. His outfielders/Util? Adam Jones, Adam Lind, Nelson Cruz, Chris Young, Ben Francisco, Juan Pierre(!) and Chris Ianetta, with Jorge Posada as his starting catcher. So every day this guy is starting at least two of Young, Francisco, Pierre and Ianetta.

I already offered him Kubel for Nolasco which he wrote off as "pure (expletive deleted)"

So, if you're him, who would you trade for Jason Kubel, if any of these guys? And if you were me, would you swap Twinkies and take Blackburn for Kubel, in spite of Blackburn's inability to strike out anyone?

C Mike Napoli
1B Prince Fielder
2B Orlando Hudson
3B Chone Figgins

UT Nick Swisher
BN Nolan Reimold
BN Ryan Church (I'm going to a couple games at citi field this weekend against the reds and well... needed someone to rout for...)

The only person I could see you getting from that group is Nick Blackburn but what's the point?

Now if you dangle Nate McClouth you might see better results. Kubel is underrated like you said, which hurts his trade value.

Forget the man crush. I drop what I'm doing to watch Zack Greinke pitch.

I'd go for Oswalt or Bedard first but he may not accept. The problem with Kubel is he is wayyy underrated, I have him at DH in one league and no one seems to want him. I for one am not a huge fan of Blackburn because I feel as though he can only go down from here and he wont really offer you much the second half.

Need McLouth for the steals, Chone Figgins has decided being picked off is more fun than stealing recently.
