I like it from the Padres side if rumors are true, the ptbnl is 1 of 2 pitchers, Gio or Gallagher. Its probably contingent on Duch returning to the A's this year.

As for Hairston, he will probably slide right into the 2 spot playing CF, or is this a sign that Holliday is on the move next.

Hairston cannot play 2B or 3B btw

I would think Hairston is a guy the A's believe will help them next season. Holliday will be gone one way or another by then, so I don't think this trade impacts what they do with him.

I'm pretty certain it's Gallagher.

Yep, and this trade kinda makes the market for Holliday stronger for us because a few teams were interested in Hairston. NYM/Atl/SF I believe.

FWIW, I was listening to Black's comments on the way to work this morning on the radio. He specifically mentioned Headley and Blanks as the guys that need to step up and fill Hairston' void. It is probably safe to stash Blanks in deeper leagues right now.

I am also hearing it's Gallagher. He can't be traded because he is still on the DL.

Yep, that's what I thought.
I wonder who the other option is. :-?

Gallagher is the PTBNL per MLB Trade Rumors

By Tim Dierkes [July 13 at 2:48am CST]
Sean Gallagher is headed to the Padres as part of the Scott Hairston deal, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. Gallagher was the player to be named later, eight days after we learned the Padres acquired pitchers Ryan Webb and Craig Italiano for Hairston.

A year ago, Gallagher was regarded as the centerpiece of the package the Cubs sent to Oakland for Rich Harden. However, Gallagher's stock dropped shortly thereafter when a shoulder injury surfaced. He still has upside.

Still like this trade, Hairston addresses a major need.
Gallagher is quite injury-prone and not a lock at this stage. The other pitchers are lottery tickets.
