The league: 12 team AL only 5x5 roto, standard 23 man rosters and $260 salary cap. There are 8 keepers each year and rosters are filled out at a draft/auction. Players acquired at the auction come with a 3 year contract.
I am out of contention for this year, so it is time for me to start looking toward next year. I missed this year's draft/auction because of a death in the family, and it's all be downhill from there.
I've got several good players with expiring contracts that I can trade to contenders for good keepers for next year. One of those players is Josh Beckett.
I am currently talking to two different teams about a trade for Beckett. I am having a tough time deciding with deal is best for me. Here are the two offers that are on the table.
Trade A:
Josh Beckett
for
Kevin Millwood (11) and David Purcey (5)
(The numbers in parenthesis represent the salaries of these players.)
Trade B:
Josh Beckett and Brad Penny (10)
for
Brad Bergeson (10) and Trevor Cahill (4)
Millwood is doing very well in a contract year. It appears that he will earn his option with the Rangers, so next year will be another contract year.
Purcey has a lot of promise, but there isn't any guarantee that he'll make it back to the majors anytime soon.
Bergeson and Cahill are both a couple of young aces that will only get better.
I really don't consider Penny to be a keeper at any price.
Right now I am inclined to go with trade B. I am looking for any thoughts.
