Overpay for Votto - Is He Worth It? WHIR

Postby jmcampbe11 » Fri Jul 03, 2009 5:55 pm

10 team roto league (we keep 3 players each season) and I'm deal last in batting average. This is the only team willing to deal with me, but he's overvaluing Votto a bit. Should I suck it up and overpay to address my biggest need?

GIVE - A.Gonzalez, Ludwick, R.Martin
GET - Votto and Wieters

MY TEAM (Keep in mind we keep our best 3 players each season)
C-Martin 1b-A.Gonzalez 2b-Phillips ss-Alx.Ramirez 3b-Longoria CI-C.Jones (E. Encarnacion) MI-Stewart OF-Sizemore, Adm.Jones, Choo, Pence, Dye Util-Kubel (Ludwick)
SP-Greinke, Gallardo, Lilly, Danks, Jimenez, Nolasco
RP-Broxton, Qualls, Wilson, Nunez
DL-A.Gordon

PS) If you think the trade's too lopsided, what if I add on Dye for Ju.Upton (getting Upton).

I'll help...thanks for help on mine.

I would definitely not do it, for several reasons. One, even if you assume Votto is taht much better than AGon (which I don't), there is Votto's health issue. Second, I happen to be a big Ludwick fan. Third, I still haven't seen Wieters explode, and this assumes Martin will be worthless forever. And fourth, I would not do your add on either, because I happen to be a big Dye fan. Hope this helps.

P.S. - if you get a chance, re-read your answer to me. I am confused what you said about BA. Thanks.

I'll rereade it now.

Would you do A.Gonzalez for Votto straight up?

No. For this year, I'd still take Gonzalez over Votto.
I'd still consider Martin over Wieters (yes, even with Martin playing like this; he's got to come back up to his career numbers, and Wieters, who I really like, is still a rookie)
So now you are throwing in Ludwick? No thank you.

Help with mine:

I'm as high on Votto as anyone, but I'd have to pass on this deal. A Gone is just too valuable a commodity. Even with the Dye/Upton addition, I'd pass.

I wouldn't do this either.

First, I've been considering swapping Gonzalez for Votto in one of my leagues as well, and the value in Gonzalez is just better. He's been getting pitched arounf lately, but he'll come back around and put up solid numbers. And between Martin and Wieters, I'd still take Martin as the commodity you know, for this season especially. Which leaves Ludwick as a throw in (as someone else said) in a deal where I feel you're already giving up the better players.

Stick with what you have.
