Lind/Holliday deal - accept or counter-offer?

Postby Knights » Fri Jul 03, 2009 5:50 pm

I've been offered Adam Lind and Gil Meche for Matt Holliday and Ted Lilly.

I like getting Lind, and I don't mind giving up Lilly as much as I like having him, but I'm not sure that I like Meche coming back.. he seems really up and down this year. But I want some other perspectives.

I'm thinking of countering with one of the following:

1) Holliday/Lilly for Lind/Javier Vazquez
2) Holliday/Lilly for Lind/James Shields.

Here's both rosters, please help me decide what I should counter-offer.

(FYI, I'm also trying to ship off some of my OF depth for help elsewhere in my lineup, so having Lind come in would make me much more comfortable in doing that.)

Meche isn't enough. Ask for a better pitcher. Maybe Vaquez.

Help with mine plz - viewtopic.php?t=392492

Thanks, anyone else?

Holliday/Lilly for Lind/Vazquez?
Holliday/Lilly for Lind/Shields?

I don't just want to know which would be better for me, but which could also be realistically accepted and be beneficial.

Thanks for the help on mine. Offer Shields, let the other side bring you down.

I like both deals.

hold onto holliday, he'll likely be dealt in a month to a contender and his value will rise

Anyone else?

I know the Vazquez deal would likely be better for me, but is that asking for too much back? Is Shields a more fair offer, or should I aim for Vazquez?

Thanks for helping on mine.....

The upgrade to Lind over Holliday is fairly significant (based on 2009 Holliday), so I think that you need to expect to give up something on the pitching side of the deal. Sure, grab Vazquez or Shields if he'll bite on that, but I think that I'd also have to consider the deal with Meche.

I agree with Etex. Consider the deal with Meche. He has been pretty good this year, not bad really. Sure, I would rather have Vazquez then Shields instead but I am not sure if he will bite on that one. But I would try to grab Vazquez in the deal if you can using the excuse that Holliday is still a top pick just struggling so far but may be traded to a contender and bounce back in the second half of the year.

please help

Thanks for seeing mine...

I have Lind and Holliday, and just traded away Lilly about 10 days ago.

I think that trading Lilly is a sweet plan if you can get good value; I rode hom while he was white-hot and traded just like I think you are doing. So I too agree that Lilly is expendable.

I love Lind. He is an absolute beast. I am sold that he is going to continue to be *almost* this good all year. So I like that aspect of the trade too.

Holliday came to me as part of the Lilly trade. I think that he will improve significantly, especially WHEN traded (hope!) but he still is not going to be near what any of the 'experts' projected, so I wouldn't mind losing him if I were you... BUT... if the other guy is interested in/targetting Holliday then I suspect that he is valuing him higher than he will turn out to be. SO, with that in mind I would try to target better than Meche...

Either of those counters you mentioned is reasonable, and I think that that is what you should aim for...

Good luck
