I'm afraid of heights too, whether it be standing on an observational deck of a cathedral's dome/spire or skyscraper, but the fear wouldn't deter me from getting up there.
In Auckland they have the Sky Tower which you can go up and walk on some glass floor, which is kewl (my g/f wouldn't do it ).
In Melbourne they have this thing called Eureka Skydeck which is a little glass room jutting out of the 88th floor of a building. It moves inwards and outwards, but it has cheesy sound effects which make it suck .
