Your Under-the-Radar 'Spects

Postby nate128 » Wed Jul 01, 2009 10:35 am

It's always nice to find these type of guys when they pop up on waivers or grab em late in your minor league drafts. Here are some guys that you generally don't find in the top 50 of prospect lists:

Tyler Flowers, C, CHW - Acquired in the Vazquez deal from Atlanta, he's got big power and knows how to take a walk. Don't know whether he'll stick as a permanent catcher, but his bat plays at 1B/DH and he could end up in a similar scenario to V-Mart (C elig.).

Brandon Allen - 1B, CHW - Just moved up to AAA and has started out fairly well. Another 1B/DH type with big power potential.

Ike Davis - 1B, NYM - Just moved up to AA as he started to show some of the big power potential that scouts thought he had. Solid plate discipline as well.

Eric Young Jr. - 2B, COL - Although people question his defense at 2B, the guy has serious wheels and is on pace to steal 100 bases in Colorado Springs. Also has great plate discipline and could be a perennial leadoff for the Rockies starting later this season.

Danny Valencia - 3B, MIN - Another power guy who has shown some great PD this season and just moved up to AAA. Probably the Twins 3B of the future.

Please add some of your own!

He'll need couple of more years in the minors but Alexander Perez for Cleveland is starting to impress me.

Nick Weglarz, though he may be a radar-level now with his performance that past month or so.

Nice mention on Alexander Perez - he's way under the radar but reportedly has pretty good stuff (mid 90's FB and a nice slider I think).

Logan Forsythe and James Darnell are both SD 3B (not good defensively though) that have made a mockery of A ball. Forsythe is in AA now and Darnell in A+.

Zack Stewart has had a nice season for the Reds (A+/AA).

Jake Odorizzi is a guy that I'm watching in the MIL org. He just made his first two starts in SS ball.

Zack Braddock of MIL has something like a 45% K rate and a 5 or 6% BB rate across two levels as a RP for MIL. He's not an elite RP prospect but those are unbelievable numbers.

Alex Avila has started nicely in the tigers org at C.

Gilles hit 2HR's tonight he is hitting in the high dessert which is a hitters park but he played in the same stadium last year and his power is coming out, he is actually deaf and fell in the draft a couple years ago because of it- he is considered to have plus speed

Banuelos was signed by the Yanks from the Mexican league-he has been pitching lights out across 73IP he has a 23% K rate and 5%BB rate

He's not having the greatest season, but Cale Iorg (Det) is a nice young middle infield prospect with a promising future.
