Follow the trail: The Cubs sign former Cardinal Aaron Miles to a two-year, $4.9-million deal. That made DeRosa expendable. So the Cubs, looking to slice some payroll, moved DeRosa to Cleveland for three minor-league pitchers. On Saturday night, the Indians dealt DeRosa to the Cardinals for Chris Perez and a player to be named later (hereafter, PTBNL). ... The tale of the transactions, told as if they were parts of a trade:
Cubs acquire Miles from Cardinals, and three minor-league pitchers from Cleveland.
Cleveland acquires Chris Perez and PTBNL from Cardinals.

Pretty much an everyday 800 OPS player with some HR power who should be batting in the top half of the Cards' lineup.
I think I would use my #1 waiver wire on DeRosa. Something better might come along, but might not as well.
I'm trying to decide how much to bid for him in my league. We have two separate FAAB pools, one for regular free agents, one for guys traded in from the NL to the AL. FAAB ties are broken based on current standings, and if someone like holiday comes along, everyone playing for this year will spend all $100 on him. Since I'm in a tight race flip flopping between 1st and 2nd place, I know I won't get a real stud that is traded to the NL. But DeRosa? Not sure everyone below me will bid their entire FAAB budget. So, I'm trying to decide what to spend. There are salary cap issues too, so not sure I want to spend it all.
But since I have a shot at him, and probably won't for someone who is a stud, I'm going to bid aggressively.
There are a few things with the New York Yankees that never change. That's pride, tradition, and most of all, we have the greatest fans in the world. -Derek Jeter, 9/21/08 -- last words from old Yankee Stadium

No, DeRosa will be playing 3B like he did for the Cubs whenever Aramis was injured.

Wait, what? He's on pace for 23-25 HR, 90-100 RBI, 85-90 R, and with an AVG of .270 that won't hurt you. He's currently ranked 68 on Yahoo, higher than Phillips at the moment. Putting him in the same sentence as Kaz Matsui is an insult.
