Too early to worry about next year?

Postby guyincognito » Fri Jun 26, 2009 2:30 pm

Would you do the following deal?:

Give - Teixeira, Beltre, Burnett
Get - Dunn, Markakis, Hamels

I consider Tex as one of my keepers along with Longoria, so I'm feeling very reluctant to give him up, but should I not be concerned about him if what I'm getting back can benefit me overall for this season? Roster and league info below. Currently in a 4 way tie for 2nd place, and only 1 game out of first. (note: Dunn qualifies at 1B in our league)

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

14 team, H2H, Keeper League (keep 2)
B Cats: Avg, E, H, HR, PP, R, RBI, SB
P Cats: W, L, K, QS, ERA, WHIP, HD, S

1B - M.Teixeira
2B - A.Hill
SS - D.Jeter
3B - E.Longoria

DH - D.Ortiz
U - A.Beltre
Bench - S.Podsednick, G.Beckham, C.McGehee, A.Cabrera (DL)

I'd probably go for it. Teixeira leaving your team hurts, but Dunn, Markakis, and Hamels are all keeper possibilities, and I think the value you gain is greater than what you give up in Tex, Beltre and Burnett.

Thanks for your help with mine.

This could be a tough one, because I completely see what you mean about losing one of your keepers in Teix. With only two kept, it's important to get the best two possible. That said, considering your situation, yes it is too early to worry about next year. You are in the thick of the race and you can win it all this year. This trade makes your team much better. Make the deal.

If you have a second, please give me your opinion? Thanks.

I would accept that that trade. You get a lot of offensive depth in return.

Thanks for the help on mine!

Are you looking to win this year? If you answer yes then do this deal. It gives you great depth for your offense and your pitching gets better with the addition of Hamels.

As for next year you will be at a slight disadvantage with out the option to keep teix.

I would still do this because you have enough offensive depth to find someone else to keep to help your team. Plus anything can happen in baseball, lots of surprises during the season. I would go for the trophy this year and accept the trade.

Deal was pulled and resent. Now the deal is Teixeira, Hunter and Burnett for Dunn, Markakis, and Hamels. Way too much right?

I wouldn't do this deal and am not sure trade #1 helped enough to trade away Tex in a league that only allows 2 keepers. Markakis (and/or Hamels) would make a relatively weak keep #2. If you are going to trade a keeper, make sure you are getting enough 2009 help to ensure a win. I really didn't feel trade #1 was a lock, and no way on the 2nd offer.
