MY UPTON for MATSUI and JIMINENZ?? WHIR for sure

Postby mlorusso » Tue Jun 23, 2009 9:27 am

I'm in a 12 team H2H, no keeper league. Categories include R, HR, RBI, AVG, OBP, SB and W, L, ERA, WHIP, SV, QS, K. A kid in my league just offered me Hideki Matsui and Ubaldo Jimeniz for my B.J. Upton. He says that he needs more speed and obviously Upton will give him more steals. I think I need more pitching, especially since Dice-K just went on the DL (but I do have Smoltz coming off it) and I told him that I wanted a decent outfielder in return.

I’m really on the fence about this trade. Upton is batting .240 and who knows if he’ll be able to turn it around. I know he’ll still provide runs with that offense and steal bases but I am worried about the average. I do have Josh Hamilton and Manny coming back soon. Matsui would give me more RBIs and has a good lineup in NY. But I’m really focused on Jimienz. He seems very streaky. Pitchers on waivers in the league include Maholm, Guthrie, Richmond, Meche, Braden, Matt Palmer. Is Jimieniz significantly better or significant enough to make the trade? My team is listed below:

C- Mauer
1B - Overbay
2B – Cano
3B – Lowell
SS – Jeter
OF – Upton
OF – J.D. Drew
OF – Jose Guillen
Util – Fukudome
Util – Bartlett
Bn – Nick Swisher
Bn – Manny Ramirez
DL – Josh Hamilton

SP – Jon Lester
SP – Edwin Jackson
SP – John Smoltz
SP – Tim Wakefield
RP – Brian Fuentes
RP – Matt Capps
DL – Ervin Santana
DL – Dice-K

Pass, that's a terrible offer. Upton is really coming around, and we know he has more power than he's shown so far. Manny will give you a hell of a boost on his own and Matsui just isn't that great anymore. Stick with what you have.

yeah, this is not a fair offer.

Upton is worth much more than those 2.
