10 team league, H2H. Categories are R, 2B, HR, RBI, BB, AVG, SB, W, L, SV, K, ERA, WHIP.
My team:
C - Wieters
1B - Howard
2B - Sanchez
SS - Drew
3B - ARod
OF - J. Upton, Markakis, Ethier
Util - Victorino
B - Hamilton, Quinten, Votto
SP - Oswalt, Shields, Vasquez, Slowey, Scherzer, Smoltz, Nolasco
RP - Soria, Soriano
I put ARod on the trade block today, not that I'm really wanting to move him while his value's so low, but more just to kick the tires a bit and see if one of the Yankee fans in my league might throw me a good offer. Well me and one of my buddies were talking and he mentioned an ARod for Wright swap. At first I thought it should be a no-brainer that I go for it, until I took a look at Wright's stats (couldn't believe he's only got 4 HRs this year).
This is how I'm seeing the potential pros and cons of the trade for me:
Pros: Big upgrade for me at AVG (currently 10th in the league) and 2B (7th) , upgrade in SB (6th) and BB 9th. There's probably a decent chance that ARod's struggles are related to his hip injury and could lead to an extended DL stint. He's getting up there in age and who knows, maybe he's just breaking down from being off the roids. Wright, despite his new approach at the plate, didn't suddenly lose all his power and is probably a good bet to hit 15-20 more HRs over the course of the season.
Cons: Downgrade at HR, maybe RBI and R. ARod's BABIP is absurdly low at .192, about .130 lower than his career norms. He's playing in a bandbox of a stadium and in that lineup WILL drive in and score a LOT or runs (unless he's still hurting). Wright on the other hand has a ridiculously high BABIP of .468, about .120 higher than his career norms. He obviously doesn't like his new home stadium much and obviously won't have the opportunities to produce in the Mets lineup that ARod does.
My team's in dead last (though not by a huge margin, I'm only 24 games out of first which isn't too bad considering some last place teams I've seen). I think that if most of my DLed guys get healthy and effective, I could have a monster if I can work my way into the playoffs. Not to sound cocky, but I'm just not used to being in this spot when it comes to fantasy baseball/football, and because of that I may be panicking a bit. I've made a lot of moves over the last 2 weeks (traded Beckett for Markakis and Oswalt, dropped Downs for Nolaso, Hardy for Votto, C. Davis for Smoltz) and am at the point where I need some outside advice on whether I should just sit tight and let things play out, or keep on dealing.
