I don't think there is a huge difference between Haren and Johan. Johan is better, but not by that much, and I don't see him winning a whole lot more games than Haren either.
I think it depends on what you plan on doing with that extra bench spot you free up with this trade, although I think with Johan's recent struggles that you might be able to do this trade without having to use Haren. Plus I still consider Lackey to be buy low right now and he's more valuable than this trade makes him out to be.
I don't do this trade. Lackey has been off this year and by the numbers there likely is as good a pitcher on your waiver wire. Haren is good yes, but Johan is a 4 catagory stud unlike any other over the past 5 seasons and more to come. Keep Johan, you wll be happy you did.

I think this deal comes down to one thing: How much better is Santana than Haren? My answer is: Not much. A few more K's, a few more W's, but I don't even think I'd give Haren + Carpenter for those extra stats. I would not do this deal.
Looking at your roster, I'd try to trade one of those starters for a catcher upgrade. That would upgrade your team and help reduce your innings.

I'd have to agree, you can get better value for your team elsewhere. I think you may be giving up too much doing a Haren for Vmart or Mauer straight up, but then again I don't see anyone letting go of Vmart or Mauer for Lackey or Carp.
If he's eligible at catcher, you may be able to get Pablo Sandoval on the cheap.
I think Haren and Santana are about the same. I give the slight edge to Santana, but not by much. I don't think the difference is worth Lackey who should get better as the year goes on. If you're looking to reduce some innings, I'd agree with the poster that said you should try to upgrade at catcher...maybe someone like Martinez.
Hi Guys.... Ill get to your posts in a sec.... just got in....
One other option I have is moving Max Scherzer and my 2nd round draft pick next year (probably be 1st of 2nd pick) for Russell Martin and his 2nd round (probably be in the last 3 picks).
I see Martin is starting to heat up.... would this be better?
i would not trade haren plus any of the guys you mentioned for santana. i have haren, and he's been gold for me. i think they are very comparable pitchers. santana has been hyped more, so his value is inflated above haren's.
i wouldn't do the other trade either. scherzer is a good young pitcher. i'd sit on both of these deals.
