Time to drop DiceK?....WHIR

Postby Tom Emanski AllStars » Sat Jun 20, 2009 10:58 am

DiceK has struggled all season. Smoltz is slated to take DiceK next start (thursday). And there's talk of moving DiceK to the bullpen all together. Is it time to cut the cord on DiceK?

    Nolan Reimold
    Aaron Rowand
    Gordon Beckham

You're ready to drop 'em like a sack of potatoes, eh? No more Mr. Nice Guy. I like that!

I might hold him thru a few starts, but probably just because I know how much you probably paid for him to get him.

I'll tell you though, I like what I'm seeing from Gavin Floyd. I might consider dropping Braden for Floyd, hang onto Dice K for a bit longer, see what happens, then pick Braden back up.

BTW, your team is looking good. What place are you in?

Help with mine?

I might just take Meche over Braden and give Dice K a couple more starts - but essentially he is a high WHIP guy who gets wins on a good team

I agree with what he said. See if DiceK turn things around first.

I would hold onto Dice. He is a proven pitcher that is going through his struggles but I believe he will right the ship.

Thanks for the help with mine!

I couldn't drop him, but I would certainly try to move him if you're looking for an improvement at a particular position.

Thanks for the help on mine!

Even if Dice does turn it around, I never thought he was that great to start with...but having said that, as strong as your team is, I don't know that any of the FA's would have much impact on your team anyway. The ones I do like are Meche, Contreras and Floyd, but they are all SP's and you are streaming them anyway with that extra roster spot.

Bottom Line: what I would do if I were you is hold on to Dice because I do think he will make some kind of a comeback, and then try to trade him, and because of his name value and team he plays on, he may bring you something decent in return.

Hope this helps. Also thanks for help on mine. (If you have a chance, could you clarify your response. I already have Aardsma/Kemp and was offered Kemp. Are you saying I should accept?) Thanks again.

According to the Boston Globe, Daisuke Matsuzaka's poor outing Friday night may land him in the bullpen.

Our View: Dice-K has been brutal this season and Friday may have been his last chance to prove to the Red Sox that he has the stuff to remain in the rotation. With John Smoltz taking Matsuzaka's next turn in the rotation on Thursday, and the Sox blessed with a dearth of healthy, rotation ready arms, Dice-K appears to be the logical odd man out. The team has yet to make a public decision, but he seems destined for the pen. The move would severely affect his fantasy value.

I'd drop him. One, with 10 teams, you'll find decent options and two he's going to kill you in two of your categories-QS-the guy barely gets out of the 5th inning & WHIP. He's always walked guys but the thing is that he is absolutely getting tattoed this season. It's one thing to expect a regression(2.98 ERA was unrealistic to expect) but when this guy is on his stuff is nasty. This season, they are straight up teeing off on him. I've stated in other threads that IMO he has to be hurting & today Francona stated he'll possibly have MRIs done. It can also be all these innings have finally caught up to him.
