Hit By the Injury Bug

Postby jzfran » Thu Jun 18, 2009 1:24 pm

So I'm in first by 5 gaes in a 5x5 8 team h2h league. However, we go by winning percentage for the season to determine the champ. I woke up this morning to find that my top offensive player (Ibanez) has joined my ace (peavy), along with Volquez and now Downs, on the DL. Fantastic. Anyways, last week I got beat mostly because I was down 2 arms. Now I'm down 3. I can plug Werth into Ibanez spot and still get some bat, but my pitching has me very worried. What should I do? Who should I pick up/drop or should I gut it out and pray?

EDIT: ONLY ONE DL SPOT

Thoughts: Drop Volquez and/or Downs for SP help???

Available SP: Liriano, Saunders, Outman, Blanton, Wandy, Porcello, Kuroda

Also, some closers are available if I drop Downs (Sherrill, Lindstrom, Rodney)

5X5-(AVG, R, RBI, HR, SB, ERA, WHIP, K, SV, W), 8 team keeper league

C-Posada
1B-Morneau
2B-Derosa
SS-Zobrist
3B-MCab
OF-Braun, C Lee, BJ Upton
Util-Werth, Reynolds
DL-Ibanez

SP-Hamels, J Johnson, Harden, Greinke, Carpenter, E Santana
RP-Jenks, F Cordero, H Bell
DL-Downs, Peavy, Volquez
DL-Scherzer

Thanks for the help on mine. My first inclination is to grab Wandy. You shouldn't expect his early season excellence, but I you'll get better numbers than his recent starts would indicate.

I'd drop Volquez for Saunders. Wandy is trash right now no one is going to pick him up. Saunders at least can get you a win and last more than 4 innings.

Who knows when Volquez will throw off the mound again...elbow injuries are terrible (look at ervin santana) and even when he does come back he'll be on a pitch count.
