Is this guy toast or what. I am about to cut him loose. Opps are batting nearly .300 against him and his K rate is down. I have kept him because he appears to be a second half player and he plays for the yanks so he is a good source for wins. On the other hand he is so bad that I have to spot start him and I am not getting every win because I cant predict what the yanks offense is going to do. Thoughts. Is Porcello a better player to have on your team?

Pettitte is exactly who we thought he was.
He's barely off his low-mid-4s era and low-mid-1.40s whip average he had his last 3 years.
His whip is up the equivalent of just over 1 h/bb per 9 innings, while his K-rate is down about 1 per 9 innings... He turned 37 the other day, so it's hard to scratch my head about this one -- he's right where he should be.

agree. Does anyone know if he is primarily a second half guy. The numbers suggest this, but I have never really followed his progress. Is he worth owning with guys like Porcello and Uehara on the waiver?

I'm not sure about for his career, but if I remember correctly he got worse as the year went along last year. I think this is the best to expect from him. Mid 4 era 1.4s whip. But still good enough for wins with this team. I would get Porcello.

Can't say it much better than this. I'd gamble on Porcello's upside over Pettitte for the remainder of the season. Granted, Porcello's numbers may dip toward the end due to innings increase (only 125 last season), but I still like him more than Old Man Andy...

Pettitte twirled a gem the other nite and as the blurb below reports has proven strong on the road. Remarkably, his road WHIP this year is 1.15 and BAA, .207.
So maybe not toast yet and worth some road starts. But eh, I've stayed away for the past few years. The only way I'd own him is if my league counted runners picked off first.
STATS Inc. Sat, Jun 20 Pettitte held Florida to one run and three hits while striking out seven in seven innings as the Yankees beat the Marlins 5-1 on Friday night. Pettitte also hit an RBI double, driving in his first run since Aug. 26, 2006, while with Houston.
Advice: Pettitte improved to 4-1 with a 2.35 ERA in six road starts this season, and the Yankees are 5-1 in those games. The left-hander is 3-2 with a 5.77 ERA at new Yankee Stadium, which has been criticized for its hitter-friendly dimensions. "They hit a couple balls tonight that would have been home runs probably at Yankee Stadium," Pettitte said Friday. "So instead of giving up one run, I might have given up three or four tonight at home."
