Certainly not someone I'd stash, in fact, you can probably even get away with watching his first few starts as I imagine they'll be a bit dicey. That said, if he isn't walking people and he posts a respectable K/9, he might be worth a flyer going forward. I think this long layoff could be the best thing for him. I remember when he came back from injury in 2007 and posted better then a strikeout and inning and a respectable walk rate. His WHIP was a bit inflated by a lot of hits, but if he is able to post that k rate and walk rate I think he could useful in any ballpark/division. Also, are you sure it's the Whitesox, because Yahoo! has a link in his player card that speculates Rays or Cubs, and if were in the NL Central my interest would be a bit higher. Also, it's important to note that his 2006 ERA (which isn't exactly recent) was considerably higher then his FIP which was just over 4. I could potentially see a mid 4's ERA with a 1.30-1.35 WHIP and an okay K-rate, which isn't great, but in some leagues may be useful, and if you spot play him, could be reasonably valuable. Just to bring this post full circle, I wouldn't race out to get him now, but I'd keep tabs. I'll also be interested in seeing the fantasy fallout in TB if he were to sign there as I'd be curious to see who's moved out of the rotation.
