Any info on Ben Sheets?

Postby metsfan12 » Wed Jun 17, 2009 10:57 am

Has there been any sort of timetable set yet for when he might be back and any news on who might sign him? Is Texas still the frontrunner?

all I found earlier was:

Rangers GM Jon Daniels answered questions in an online chat hosted by Richard Durrett of the Dallas Morning News. Ben Sheets isn't far enough along to be talking contract, but the Rangers are in touch with his agent.

I have been searching high and low. but I cant get anything on him. I want to see how his rehab is going.

All I could find was this:

Maybe the dude has a myspace page or blog or something where he is updating friends etc. on his rehab? I don't know but it might be worth looking into.

Actually, there is some pretty good info on that site. The most relevant I saw was this:

Ben Sheets Sighting
By Tim Dierkes [May 15, 2009 at 10:12pm CST]
We have a Ben Sheets sighting, courtesy of MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan. Sheets appeared at The Ballpark In Arlington today to visit with Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux. The free agent pitcher spoke of an upcoming meeting with Dr. James Andrews after which he hopes to be cleared to begin a throwing program (he had flexor tendon elbow surgery on February 13th).

The Rangers are the obvious favorites to sign Sheets later this year, especially if they remain in contention. But Sheets says he hasn't started worrying about where he'll sign yet.

CBS Sports

Ben Sheets, SP MIL
News: The fact no team has given Ben Sheets (elbow surgery) a contract suggests he won't be ready to pitch this season.

Analysis: Sheets is owned in 13 percent of CBSSports.com's leagues, but he should probably be cut for another flier at this point -- say a Pedro Martinez. Martinez is throwing an awaiting an offer, while Sheets has yet to be reported throwing. Cut and ignore Sheets if you were hoping for a 2009 return at this point.

So Carl Pavano does nothing for 84 years under a huge contract - and gets every penny of it - but poor Ben Sheets gets bubkus because he gets hurt in his walk year.

This world is a terribly unfair place.

Ben Sheets gets hurt every year. He is (was?) a great pitcher when healthy, but that wasn't often. He's a huge risk that could carry a huge reward if he stays healthy.
