I'd be willing to let my kid pass up the prom if he had a legit chance at being signed for TWENTY MILLION DOLLARS the following year, heck, he can read Hamlet on the bus during his short stint in the minors.

The problem I do have with it, though, is that there are no doubt thousands of delusional parents who will see this news and think that maybe it's a viable path for their nowhere-near-as-talented sons and daughters.
Can't stop stupid.
If he's being told he'll get even a few million as a signing bonus, then he really has good reason to do this.
