Werth and Reimold for Ethier - WHIR

Postby plapre3 » Sun Jun 14, 2009 10:31 pm

My OF (and offense in general) has a lot of depth so I'm looking to consolidate it by upgrading to a better player at a position. In my league, it's very hard to make deals, let alone make 2-for-1 trades since it seems people are overly wary and live and die by the rule that you simply don't make them. That is, of course, unless one is willing to overpay. Anyway, this is the offer on the table:

My Jayson Werth and Nolan Reimold for his Andre Ethier?

I think Ethier is the best player in the deal, but I'm not convinced that he's much more valuable than Werth, or even Reimold for that matter. The thing is, with my lineup I'm never going to win steals in a week and I feel that a little bit of Werth's value is being wasted since his speed doesn't help me. Ethier's overall offensive stats are a little bit better, but is that slight gain worth Reimold?

The Sidd Finches:
C Bengie Molina
1B Adrian Gonzalez
2B Aaron Hill
SS Michael Young
3B Kevin Youkilis
OF Carlos Beltran
OF Adam Dunn
OF Johnny Damon
UT Jayson Werth
Bench: Mike Napoli, Billy Butler, Mark DeRosa, Garret Atkins, Ryan Theriot, Nolan Reimold, Corey Hart

SP (Start 5) Roy Halladay, Jon Lester, Wandy Rodriguez, Kevin Slowey, Mark Buehrle
RP (Start 3) Joe Nathan, Joakim Soria, Huston Street
Bench: Paul Mahom, Chris Young, Dallas Braden

Minors: Neftali Feliz, Franklin Morales, Tim Alderson, Carlos Carrasco, and Matt LaPorta

6x6 weekly HtH 14 team roto keeper (between 5 and 10 keepers (no time limits or costs), losing a draft pick for each after 5)
Offensive Categories: BA, OPS, RBI, HR, SB and Runs Scored.
Pitching Categories: W, S, ERA, K/IP, Quality Starts minus Losses, and WHIP
Minors: 5 "free" keepers. These players if are eligible to be kept without the loss of a draft pick and in addition to the max of 10. They must have under 200 Ab or less than 75 IP and 20 APP.

Thank you in advance and as always, WHIR

this trade is pretty even, although I think Werth for Ethier is a fair enough deal straight up - if you need some speed keep Werth

I agree with angels. Try Werth for Ethier straight up and see if it works.

It doesn't work. This is the deal; the guy won't budge.

I should have mentioned that this would free up a roster spot which would be used on a player in the majors that still qualifies under out league settings (less than 200 AB or 75 IP/20 APP) for a minor league roster spot such as Reimold. Gerrardo Parra could be had off of waivers for me, or I could pick up Chris Coghlan. Otherwise, there are several real minors guys that I could pick up who offer some nice upside.

Really, I guess the whole thing comes down to everyone's opinion of Reimold. Is he for real? If yes, then I don't think I make the deal. If no, then it comes down to whom ya'll think is better: Werth or Ethier?

Thanks for the help thus far. Anyone else?

If I were to get back Randy Wells would it make a difference?
