Thinking about dropping Iannetta ... dumb? WHIR

Postby schmidty » Sat Jun 13, 2009 5:04 pm

With no Joey Votto, my lineup has been feeling awfully weak lately. I've had Iannetta at C and Sandoval at 1B. There are some serviceable 1B eligible guys on the WW: Aubrey Huff, Nick Johnson, Adam LaRoche, Overbay, Morales. Pick up one of those (until Votto gets back) and drop Iannetta (moving Sandoval into C)? I don't know about dropping a pitcher. I need 3 closers to compete, and I'm already trying to find room to add Nolasco. Or ride it out until my team gets healthy (I'm 10 games over 0.500 in 4th place - top 6 make playoffs). I don't think I could get much for Iannetta in a trade at this point (he's been on the trading block with no feelers). Now Sandoval I could probably trade (maybe packaged with a lower-tier SP to open up a roster spot for Nolasco). But that means committing to Iannetta as my catcher. His low average and 8th place lineup spot (not to mention a Yahoo blurb suggesting he'll lose PT when Torrealba comes back from his kidnapping crisis) don't fill me with confidence.

Anyway, comments/suggestions are welcome! Leave a link and I'll answer yours.

This is a 12-team Yahoo H2H redraft, 5x5 scoring. Only one DL spot (so I'm eating a bench spot for Votto right now).

C: Iannetta
1B: Sandoval (also C/3B elig)
2B: Kinsler
3B: Felipe Lopez (also 2B/SS/OF elig)
SS: Rollins
OF: Bay
OF: Victorino
OF: Abreu
Util: Hunter - OF
Bn: Ordonez - OF, Votto - 1B (on DL)
DL: Aramis Ramirez

SP: Billingsley, Cueto, Wandy Rodriguez, Danks, Scott Baker, Ubaldo Jimenez, Volstad
RP: Rivera, Capps, Bailey

Hold on to him for the next week. The Rox play their next 8 games at Coors and he is due to start hitting. He's not going to bring anything in trade now, so you might as well keep him and get what you can out of him.

i´m in the same dilema...no easy choices, but hold on and hope for him to better his numbers and then try to trade him...he is no asset on the waiver wire

I may be in the minority here, but I don't see the big upside in Iannetta, so why keep him at all (he is actually a FA in a couple of my leagues).

I like your idea about moving Sandoval (whom I would not trade anyway) to C and picking up a 1B...I would suggest riding Overbay's hot streak and either keep him or then look at Huff, etc.

What you would be doing is substituting Overbay/Huff, etc. (and it sounds like you will always have FA options) for Iannetta, who may or may not put up numbers, and you can keep an eye on him and look to pick him up before anyone else does if he starts to hit.

Thanks for help on mine.

thanks for the help on mine...

looking at your lineup i would much rather move Sandoval to C and use his nice average to your benefit, then cut ties with Iannetta and look to add Huff or Overbay... i have the same issues with Iannetta and Ramon Hernandez in my league and would gladly dump either if Huff or Overbay were available... i think your better option is to have Sandoval and either Huff or Overbay then Iannetta and Sandy...

hope it helps, would also look to try to get some value for Abreu or Maggs and then weather the storm with Aram and Votto giving you a big boost once they get back...good luck!

Great thanks to soto for the sweet sig!...
