DIRECT MY ATTENTION: REYES HAMILTONor SIZEMORE? WILL RESPOND

Postby Seanyfever » Fri Jun 12, 2009 11:19 pm

Hey, I have an owner being ravaged by injuries and I think I can nab a player from him... notably Reyes or Sizemore. He just stated that Hamilton could be had as well. In a keeper, any of these would be great for a team I have out together for five years. I know I can flip Theriot in this deal, possibly A. Cabrera, and more. He had Pujols, but I can't shake that deal.

I presume Peavy, Theriot are part of outgoing package.

Who do you like better to contribute this year, Reyes Hamilton or Sizemore?
Rest of career?

Much as I hate to say it because I wasted auction dollars on Reyes, I think Sizemore is the better bet. Reyes reportedly talked about it feeling like someone was sending electric shocks up his leg with his torn hammy, and that's not a good sign at all for a guy whose value is based first and foremost on speed. He's six weeks away from coming back and further from being effective. I'd try to pick off Sizemore.

I think Sizemore's the better bet for this year and beyond. Thanks for the help with mine.

Thanks for the help with mine.

That's a tough call. Right now, I lean towards Sizemore, but not by much. My concern with Reyes is that the leg will be less than 100% all season (they're using words like "small tear"). So, while he may put up decent numbers at the plate, his speed will suffer. Which means that his steals might be way down, which really hurts his value.

Unfortunately, with Sizemore there is more of a risk that he will be out for an extended period of time. But as long as he doesn't need arthroscopic surgerey (mri scheduled for early next week....out 6 weeks if needs surgery), I like Sizemore over Reyes. Worst case scenario (if Sizemore needs surgery) you still have Sizemore for 2+ months, so I would take the risk with him.

But, again, they are close in the risk/reward department. So if the other manager is willing to let one of those guys go at a lower price than the other, don't overthink it and just take the discount.

I'd say Reyes is the better bet. Sizemore could come back in a week, but I don't see that happening. The Indians will play it safe with him and I think he has thre surgery. Reyes scares me too, but I'd rather have him than Sizemore.

with both on my roster I am very concerned about both - right now I like Sizemore a bit more, but I am sure the Indians will be extra cautious with him since they are essentially out of the race - Reyes relies more on his speed for his value and has a torn hammy, which makes me think he ends up being a flat out bust this year

i don't think either of those guys will put up good value this year. but if i had to pick one of them for the rest of this season, i would want sizemore. for the rest of their careers however, i'm taking reyes all day. either way, if you can get them for cheap i would be all over it, but i wouldnt move miguel cabrera for either one right now.

thanks for your help on mine.
