I'm an Angels fan, and a believer that Santana will return to 2008 form however I think Scherzer is on the verge of being an elite pitcher. he has improved drastically from the beginning of the year (not that he was bad) and he has been able to pitch later into games so that should result in more wins and K's from him. I would not do that trade.

I would hang on to Max Scherzer based on his upside. I think he will be the ace of the Arizona staff by the end of the season.

Uhhhhh what?..........Two guys named Dan Haren and Brandon Webb have something to say about that. Scherzer is far from being the ace of this staff.

Ok I forgot about Haren, but Webb is a) hurt and b) on the trading block. I still think Scherzer is going to be better this year than Ervin.

I wouldnt burn a middle waiver priority on Santana to fill an empty spot on my bench. Keep Scherzer definitely.

Scherzer has been doing pretty good.
Santana has been doing pretty bad overall.
I'd keep Scherzer.

I think you have to hang on to Max at this point.
