Enough pitching? WHIR

Postby dirty tom » Thu Jun 11, 2009 6:54 pm

I am in a 10-team league. My SP currently consists of:

Verlander
Shields
Wainwright
J. Johnson
B. Webb (DL)

I traded Peavy a week or two ago for Markakis. Right now I am tops in Ks and 2nd in WHIP and ERA (also 61 IP over the limit)

My offense has for some reason been horrible:

Soto
Pujols
Phillips
Wright
Jeter
Markakis
Maggs
Kubel/McCutcheon/Hermida
Util (2): Blake, Hardy, Stewart
DL: Josh Hamilton, Carlos Quentin

I'm dead last in RBI (32 behind 9th place), 9th in HR (11 behind 8th), and 8th in runs (5-8 all very close)

Is it worth dealing Verlander for a stud bat I can plug in at util all the time? Maybe a Morneau? My pitching would obviously fall off considerably, but my offense just hasn't been there...should I stick with what I have and hope Quentin and Hamilton can actually hit the ball when they come back, or try to swing a deal for a Howard or Morneau type? My feeling is that Webb will essentially take Verlander's spot in the rotation and won't be a drop-off... help? WHIR!

Its not "some" reason, its Soto, Mags, Hamilton and Quentin. I don't know that I'd trade Verlander, and certainly not until Webb comes back and is effective. Any pop on the waiver wire? Or perhaps a deal to be made for a lesser player that you could trade a Shields or Wainwright for? You have the pieces in place, just need guys like Wright to start hitting bombs and Hamilton/Quentin to hopefully come back after the AS break.

I'm in the same boat.

I have Soto, Wright, Hardy, Quentin, and Hamilton as well. I moved Hamilton yesterday for Ethier to get immediate help. I think you have to ride out Soto, but what about shopping one of your two long term DL guys?
