Great offense for a 20 team league. Any problems you have will likely be on the pitching end of things. Be on the look out for relievers with good whips and era's (don't worry about if they close or not). You need to trade two offensive players for one top tier pitcher. You need to get Pat Burrell into your linup and in a 20 team league, Harvey is a legit hitter.
An unemployed jester is nobody's fool.

well... I'll be blunt. your pitching staff, vazquez excluded, sucks and you have no speed. The previous poster is right about middle relievers although all the big names are probably gone at this point. I think you need to look at bargain/no name starters that others may have overlooked and gamble. Look for people liek Jose Acevedo (CIN) or Edwin Jackson (LAD).... both might be taken, but there is a chance their available... you need to gamble a bit.

Both Acevedo and Jackson are available. Should I get them both? Who should I drop?

well... let's take a look at some numbers.

Postby matmat » Tue Mar 16, 2004 5:35 am

first off I'll assume that this is a standard 5x5 league.
I'd get rid of jason jennings... he has a 4+ career ERA and 1.5+ whip... his numbers last year were worse.

I'd also get rid of chris reitsma -- his numbers arn't good...

you have to understand that jackson and acevedo are both young and only acevedo is, at this point, guaranteed a rotation spot. I saw jackson pitch last year and he looked good. both their ratios were very good last year... this is a gamble, but with that pitching staff you probably should take a few.

see if guillermo mota is available... he is a middle reliever that pitched really well last year.

here's a big thing about your middle infield -- I believe michael young will be playing SS in texas, which should get him qualified for that position in your league in about a month or less... at that point you might be able to drop/trade away carlos guillen to someone who is short a SS....

also, see if there are any Lopez buyers out there... you might be able to pull off some sort of a trade where you can get a catcher that is almost as good (LeCroy?) and an upgrade somewhere for him...
