What to offer for Manny?

Postby guyincognito » Wed Jun 10, 2009 1:35 pm

Team in last place has Manny, so I'm thinking of trying make a play for him. I was thinking of offering Ichiro and AJ Burnett. He needs all the help he can get offensively, however, he needs RP probably more then SP since he has Halladay, Carpenter, Beckett and Joba, but I figure if I send him another SP he could then try to move one for an RP. I just acquired Ellsbury, so I'm thinking I can move Ichiro, bigger name, more trade value and a better keeper option then Ellsbury or Hunter. My roster and league info is posted below. Please take a look and let me know what you think I should offer for Manny.

As always, thanks in advance for any and all advice!

14 team, H2H, Keeper League (keep 2)
B Cats: Avg, E, H, HR, PP, R, RBI, SB
P Cats: W, L, K, QS, ERA, WHIP, HD, S

C - V.Martinez
1B - M.Teixeira
2B - A.Hill
SS - D.Jeter
3B - E.Longoria
OF - Ichiro, T.Hunter, J.Ellsbury
DH - M.Cuddyer
U - G.Atkins
Bench - A.Beltre, G.Beckham, A.Cabrera (DL)
SP - A.J.Burnett, C.Lee, J.Cueto, E.Santana
RP - M.Rivera, R.Franklin, O.Dotel, R.Soriano, JC Romero
Bench - K.Millwood, R.Porcello, C.Wang, Escobar, Lidge (DL)

I have tried to get manny myself but with no luck. I would first start out by offering him one player, ichiro perhaps or rivera. Why send him 2 when 1 might be enough? Try and impress upon him the fact that manny is doing him no good right now and if he doesnt make a move it will be too late to save his season. If that fails i would try to package Burnett as you mentioned with another player as you suggested.

I agree. And now is the time to target Manny, he's been getting 0pts and he still has the better part of a month of getting nothing. If you wait too long he may just say "i've held onto him this long, what's another week or so"

All that being said, I'd try a 1-1 trade first and see if he bites

thanks for helping with mine

I agree, offer him Ichiro straight up first. Also, I don't know if I'd be all that excited about Manny as a keeper, athough Ichiro isn't much better. If you are keeping 2 Manny shouldn't play into the keepers at all but who does this guy have as keepers? If he is considering keeping Manny he won't want Ichiro for him, nor will he want Ichiro and Burnett. With only keeping 2 (2 guys won't win you a league) I wouldn't worry too much about long term keepers. ie I might try and trade Longoria for another 1st rounder that is older PLUS something else. With only 28 guys kept there are going to be such good options each year that keeping the same guy year after year isn't going to get you much. Like this year, now all of a sudden Mauer might be a top 28 guy worth keeping, as might Greinke. You should definitely play for the current year and try and rob the guys at the bottom that will drool over a keeper like Longoria. If you had 5 keepers it would be a different story.

Hate to echo everyone else, but I'll do it anyway. Ichiro for manny straight up is the starting point. After that, throw in Burnett. If you can't get him for that, I'd stand pat.

Thanks for your help.
