Rivera for Lilly. WHIR

Postby afern401 » Wed Jun 10, 2009 1:40 am

My team has strong relief pitching and weak starting pitching. I have been trying to work a deal to land me a better starting pitcher. I was offered Ted Lilly for Mariano Rivera. What are your thoughts? I like Lilly (3.28 era, 6 wins 59 k's) and am inclined to make the deal because no one else has really been interested in dealing. Just looking for your thoughts and insights, Thanks.

This team is in a 5x5 scoring, 14 team Head to Head league. We use OBP instead of BA.

Dont know if just frankin and wilson will cut it for u but you do need help in SP. Lilly will be a solid add if you feel fine with having them for your RP. Good luck ;-D

If you think people will over value Rivera what are some of the pitchers you think I should target? (I know this is a difficult question to answer not knowing any of the other teams in the league)

thanks for the help on mine.
This is a tough one because I think Rivera is probably worth more then that, but I completely understand about a league in which it's very difficult to get something going with anyone, and typically when someone actually does respond you tend to conceed just to get something done. It's not that bad a deal as Lilly is very underrated in my opinion and you could really use the SP help. Before you accept it, I would try to see if you could move either Wilson or Franklin for Lilly instead of Mo.

If I had Rivera, I would not do this trade. Rivera is a top 5 closer still on a winning team. Maybe try and get Carpenter? You can do better than that.

Help?

The owner im talking with has Carpenter as well. Iv already asked about him, he said theres no way. Im leading the league in saves and I'm itching for some more starting pitching, im getting closer and closer to making the trade even if I could find a better deal

Don't you think you could trade one of your very nice-looking bench bats for a good SP. In a 14 teamer you have a nice batting lineup there that could take a hit IMO...

Otherwise, I think that trade is fair but I worry it would leave you short at RP...

I totally agree with the previous poster: trade one of the bats on your bench. I think you need all three of those RP on your roster. If you do decide to trade one of those relievers, trade Ryan Franklin...I just don't think he can hold on to the Cards closer role all year (of course, take this opinion with a grain of salt, especially coming from a pessimistic Cards fan!)

Please see mine B-)
