Will Bastardo be sent back down to the minors regardless of how he pitches on Sunday?

Does any one know the Phils immediate plans for him?

Bastardo seems to be up with the team as long as he does well and assuming they don't trade for a pitcher. He looked good in his first start. Through mostly fastballs, but will need to throw more different pitches in future games.

Im not sure exactly what you mean by him getting sent down after this start possibly. I think he could pitch pretty poorly and still get another chance or two. There arent many other options for the phillies in house. Carrasco has struggled and probably isnt ready. Kendrick has done alright in the minors but they have skipped over picking him twice now (Carpenter earlier for one start and last week). I dont think Carpenter has the upside to get a bunch of starts up here. Charlie Manuel wants to see Chan Ho Park in the pen so I think he will stay there.

I would be absolutely shocked if Madson wasn't next in line. The only other RP they have I could see closing other then Madson (if they didn't use Lidge) would be JC Romero, but I would think that would only happen if 1) Madson is not available or 2) Charlie is playing matchups with lefties due up in the 9th.

Now as for Lidge losing his job, he didn't pitch particularly well friday night, but he the blown save was the result of an unearned run. Prior to friday night he'd saved 4 games on consecutive 4 days. While the fans are restless, Charlie is a very patient manager, so despite these last 2 BS I don't think a change is coming unless they find a reason to put Lidge on the DL.

On the subject of Bastardo, I think if the Phillies trade for a pitcher he'll be the first to leave the rotation. Both Blanton and Moyer have pitched better lately and Happ has done well since entering the rotation. As for Hamels, well obviously only injury would get him bounced.
