Given my team's makeup and the fact that a) I am in dire need of HR, RBI, RUNS and OPS and b) the fact that I have Valverde coming back soon, do I accept the offer of giving up Lester and Broxton to acquire Soriano? C- Martin 1B- Loney (normally Votto) 2B- Phillips SS- Hanley 3B- Longoria CI- Beltre MI- Uggla OF- Pence,Hunter,Rios,Alexei Ramirez, Hermida UTIL- Hafner, Reimold BENCH- Crisp DL- Votto SP- Halladay, Lester RP- Broxton, Bell P- Street, Marmol, Garza, Cueto BENCH- Jurjens, Maine, Happ, Pavano DL- Valverde
As someone that has owned Soriano for years in a keeper league, I know the highs and lows of owning Alfonso Soriano. There are times when it's bliss, but times like right now Soriano when he's slumping are terrible.
He gets tons of points in the catgs you mention, but they come in spurts.
Given that he's at a low right now, you might be giving up too much to get him. I agree your OF would be upgraded, but I'd only give up one of those guys. Is the other guy desparate for pitching? He might be feeling like me that Alfonso is all he can shop right now. I'd go for one or the other for Soriano.
OR, I'd offer him Jurjjens + Maine ... a weaker 2-for-1.
the roller coaster ride that is soriano is as prevalent this year as it has been in the past. the only thing i fear is the leg injury. as your trade stands - it would probable benefit you. your SP's will be fine without lester - it's just a question of if you're ready to lose your best closer.

You have to make this trade. Broxton is a stud, but an offensive player is still more valuable then a closer. And while I like Lester, he's shown no signs of being the dominating pitcher everyone thought he'd be going into the season.

Well one thing you need to consider is who needs pitching. That should narrow down your options. Then decide whether or not one of their players helps you in those categories. Soriano is just not consistent and is battling an injury that may linger all year long.
I'm in disbelief reading some of these answers. Sure, Broxton is arguably the best closer in the game and Lester, if he turns it around, can be a quality #2 or 3 pitcher. But.. you're getting Soriano at the perfect buy-low time. As people have said, everyone knows he's a streaky hitter. As a diehard Cubs fan and Soriano owner, I can tell you that Soriano's injury is simply not a factor. In fact, he seemed to have "cured it" a couple games ago when he was on the basepaths and broke through some scar tissue. Soriano's slumps come with the territory. You will be thanking yourself for making this move when he simply dominates for a month. All you're giving up is a shaky SP and a *closer* - I don't care how good your closer is, a closer for a 2nd round hitter is always a good deal. I'd take this in a heartbeat.
