he's still in high school , playing high school ball with other high schoolers. ( a point previously mentioned). but if he does get his GED and jump to The Show i predict that he will be the first major leaguer to have to go on the 60-day DL for social anxiety order!

this isn't the NBA where you can make an immediate impact at 18.

I read somewhere that in the HR contest at Tropicana, they did try with wood bats. No one hit a HR but Bryce did hit one off the wall.

I heard today that the kid already plays over 120 games a year. Doubt you just playing "normal or average" HS school kids with that type of schedule. He is playing against the best talent he possibly can now and is destorying it. Also, he was recruited to play for other states all star teams (such as Cali) so he has been out of his district/state against other comp.

I mean SI is a little late but I'd disagree with anyone that is saying he's just a high schooler with a metal bat.

And really I disagree with iltat on the opinion coming from the fact that you've played at a high level that you'd be able to come to that conclusion. You're not the only person who's played baseball at a high level. Also, he's most likely not going to be drafted as a pitcher so whether or not he can pound a low strike zone doesn't matter one bit. But my bet is that he's been able to face that level of competition, read the first article linked when he was 15.

I'm not anointing him as the king, but I'm saying you can't just write him off because of inexperience.

When big Bryce Harper made the cover of Sports Illustrated two weeks ago, I knew we'd soon again be hearing from the 16-year-old 'chosen one.'

But not quite this soon.

On Sunday, the sophomore from Las Vegas found his way into national headlines again when his father announced that Bryce will forgo his final two years of high school and use a GED to enroll in a community college this August. Though it more or less makes a mockery of our education system, the Harpers' plan would make Bryce eligible for the 2010 draft, where he could conceivably be the Nationals' No. 1 pick and eventually join forces with Stephen Strasburg to save Washington baseball from itself.

It's a controversial decision, to be sure, but Ron Harper says he and his son are prepared to hear from the inevitable haters.
