Big Halladay deal! should i do this? WHIR

Postby danvan18 » Thu Jun 04, 2009 4:56 am

im in a 5X5 head to head 8 team league. my pitching has been outstanding with Lincecum, Halladay, Buehrle, Chamberlain, Lackey, Scherzer, Volquez, Dempster, Harang, Nolasco

my hitting hasnt been so good. im really lacking in R, RBI, and SB. my AVG could use some help too.

i have been offered a deal in which i would get Jason Bay, Nick Markakis, and either Ted Lilly or Matt Garza in exchange for Roy Halladay, Jermaine Dye, and Mark Buehrle.

i really like Halladay alot. but i need hitting. i do have some nice hitters, but theyve all had slow starts and injury problems. i do have Posada, Berkman, Hill, Reyes, Chipper/Lowell, Soriano, C.Lee, J.Upton, Bruce, etc.

should i wait for my hitting to possibly come around, or do i deal Halladay for a couple big bats?

thanks for the input!

Thanks for looking at mine.

I could go either way on that deal. On pure value, those hitters are more than enough for Halladay. But, in an 8 team league, stud pitching is hard to come by. In addition, your OF is crowded enough as it is. With the addition of Bay and Kakis, that means Upton and Bruce would be sitting on your bench, doing nothing? If your hitting really isn't cutting it, maybe you can go ahead with this deal, it's not horrible. But, I would first try to consolidate your OF talent with twofers. I know it's difficult to do that, but it's worth a shot before letting go of Halladay.

sounds like you share the same opinion as i do. im really leaning towards not doing it.

my pitching may be very good, but the lincecum/halladay 1-2 punch is so solid. plus losing buehrle...i know Lilly is about the same, but i dont know if i can deal Halladay for a couple OF bats, who arent much better (if any better) than the guys i already have when theyre playing healthy.

I was going to endorse the deal until I realized it's an 8-team league and you have a full OF. How many UTL spots do you use? I like Bay and Markakis a lot but Halladay is a freight train. Have you thought of asking for a top 10 OF, since you're giving an elite SP?

he doesnt even have a top 10 OF. i think im backing out, because he just doesnt have anyone good enough for me to justify dealing Halladay. i like your analogy. he is a freight train. he just goes 200+ innings, throws more CG than anyone in baseball, and picks up wins. hes probably the most consistently productive SP in the major leagues.

hes on pace for about 27 wins, 250 K's, a sub 3.00 era, a sub 1.10 whip, and i know outside injury, i never have to think about removing him from my rotation.

the guy im talking with has Ryan Howard, but i already have Berkman. when he gets it going, i dont see how Berkman can be too much worse than Howard. if i didnt have so many potential guys, id probably go ahead, but i have like 6 OF who are normally all-star caliber. i think ill just wait it out, or talk to other teams with better hitters to offer.
