Big Trade for Mariano Rivera, WHIR 100%

Postby FantasyStud » Wed Jun 03, 2009 4:46 pm

Hi all,

Keeper League 5x5 categories, 10 teams, Roto Scoring
I'm in 3rd place, 16.5 points out of second and 17.5 points out of first

C-Bengie Molina
1B-Ryan Howard
2B-Dan Uggla
SS-Jose Reyes (DL)
3B-Mark Reynolds
OF-Magglio Ordonez
OF-Curtis Granderson
OF-Jacoby Ellsbury
OF-Johnny Damon
OF-Andre Ethier
UTL-Miguel Cabrera (only 1B eligible)
UTL-Shin-Soo Choo
DL-Jason Bartlett

P-CC Sabathia
P-Justin Verlander
P-Wandy Rodriguez
P-John Lackey
P-Ryan Dempster
P-Gil Meche
P-Joakim Soria
P-Francisco Rodriguez
P-LaTroy Hawkins
BN-David Price
BN-Mark Buehrle
BN-Clayton Richard

Prospect-Carlos Carasco
Prospect-David Price
Prospect-Matt Wieters
Prospect-Dexter Fowler
Prospect-Brett Anderson
Prospect-Pedro Alvarez

Soria obviously just came back, however, I am really struggling in saves despite having two of the best closers. I have 26 saves and only have 2.5 points out of 10 for saves.

The trade would be:

I give up Mark Reynolds and Shin-Soo Choo
I get Mariano Rivera and Pablo Sandoval

If I made this trade, I would then make two follow up moves:

(a) Drop LaTroy Hawkins, Add Matt Wieters. Wieters is my prospect and I have control of him regardless of whether or not he is on my team. Wieters would be my utility player.
(b) Drop Clayton Richard (after tonight's start), Add a SS since Jose Reyes had a setback. I will try to add Marco Scutaro once he clears waivers, or Jhonny Peralta, Christian Guzman, or the likes until Reyes/Bartlett return.

Thoughts? WHIR I promise!

Note: His team also has Jonathan Broxton, who I would probably prefer to Mariano Rivera. Should I try to target Broxton instead - it would probably cost me more.

Well Choo is a utility player for me since I already have Ordonez, Granderson, Ellsbury, Ethier, and Damon in the OF. If I made this trade, I would need to add a SS since apparently Jose Reyes had a setback in his rehab. The best SS's available are Jose Peralta, Christian Guzman, and Marco Scutaro once he clears waivers.

I would do it and pick up Scutaro (I am confused cause it says you already have him on your roster. Who is going to fill the UTL spot?

I still say it's not a bad deal. You take a downgrade at 3B but Mo for Choo is well worth it.

Help with mine?

Thanks for the help.
Soley basing this move around saves, I think it is a fair deal. Not that huge of a downgrade at 3B, but significant.
And @SS, I'd grab Scutaro if possible.

I had Scutaro but I dropped him earlier thinking that Reyes was coming back in two days. Since he suffered a setback, I need to re-add Scutaro. I would probably add Matt Wieters to fill my utility spot, once I figure out what's wrong with Reyes and how long he is going to be out.

That said, definitely do it. Especially if Wieters is on the wire. Grab him immediately.

Please look at mine.

Well Wieters is my prospect so I have control of him regardless of whether or not I call him up or not.

If you make this trade, I think you should probably UTIL Wieters, all this depending on incoming news of Reyes' calf.

Thanks, I agree, and I definitely would (I updated my original post with details of what moves I would make.) I'm just not sure if I'm giving up too much for a closer. Two of the ten players that I kept in my keeper league were KRod and Soria - 2 elite closers - so I'm obviously frustrated that I'm struggling in saves and I'm not sure if it's necessary to make a big move to add a third elite closer.
