Mauer for Halladay latest offer WHIR

Postby briane » Tue Jun 02, 2009 10:20 pm

Players in parenthesis are not part of the trade, but will be released/added in order to fill my roster:

I give:

Joe Mauer
Vlad Guerrero
(Juan Cruz)
(Kyle Davies)
Brandon Inge

I get:
(Miguel Olivo/Rod Barajas)
Pat Burrell
Jason Isringhausen
Roy Halladay
(Inge is on my bench, so no replacement)
Glen Perkins

Thoughts? I think Mauer for Halladay is fair, am I giving up way too much in the filler part of the deal?

Hmmm, this is tough. If you need the SP big time, then you may have to do this deal. But, talent vs talent, I would not do this deal. You have a top catcher, Vladdy is a proven bat and you can play Inge at C.

You pretty much get Halladay for all of that. Izzy is garbage, Burrell is overrated and hurt, and then you take a HUGE hit at catcher.

I would stay away from this deal - I think you should be able to find someone who will give you a top 5ish pitcher straight up for Mauer and then you can put Inge in the C spot and be much better off

I second this. I'm as big of a fan of Halladay as anyone but you are giving up too much.

If I got Shoppach back as well, does that change it at all?

I am torn between making this deal and packing it in for the year as I am way behind in pitching categories, and can't buy a good pitching performance. I am not even sure Halladay would help me enough to get out of the basement in pitching categories. (almost 1 full run ERA behind the 5th place team; 7 team league) I do have Smoltz and Duchscherer coming back.

This is an awful trade. You are giving Mauer and Vlad and getting back Halladay and a bunch of scrap. Not good at all.

You didn't mention what type of league you are in and that could make a difference. In a fantasy point league, Halladay could end up outscoring Mauer quite substantially. I think getting a top-5 pitcher for a catcher would be a great deal for you regardless of the league. I also think Vlad is on his last legs and Burrell won't be as bad the rest of the season so that part could be a wash. If you do give up Mauer, don't part with Inge sonce he would be a better replacement at catcher than Olivo or Barajas.

Opinions on mine? viewtopic.php?t=388373

To answer the questions, it is a Rotisserie style league. My team ERA is a full run behind the 2nd worst team, at 5.8 or so.

I am thinking that it would take so much to get an improvement in pitching that it's time to pack it in for the year. I either will make a deal for pitching or dump and run. (It is a small keeper league (3 keepers), so.....)

regardless of where you stand on ERA, you can't make this trade. You are giving up WAY too much for Halladay. I'd target another pitcher who will help your ERA, but not require you to give up so much
