Pulled the plug on manny, howd I do??

Postby leftovers » Mon Jun 01, 2009 9:41 pm

I am in a 12 team H2H keeper league with scoring for R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OPS, W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP, K/9 and am now in 9th place after a lot of injuries and lackluster play. I dropped a lot in the past 2-3 weeks and felt like I needed to get some heathy bats in my lineup. I was sitting on Manny for a while but realized I needed production now and that I couldnt wait another 4 weeks to get him back or id be far out of the playoff hunt.

So I traded Manny and Volquez (before he got re-injured tonight) for Nelson Cruz and Fransisco. This trade has keeper implications as well: Manny is $29 to keep for the next 2 years whereas I can keep cruz for 2 more years for only $8. I could have kept volquez for one more year at $13.

Here is my team after the trade. Do you think this was a good move to get me back into the playoff hunt or did I give up too much? I figure even if I dont make the playoffs this year (top 6 teams), at the very least I got a stud keeper for next year in the caribean cruz. I also know that I need to address my pitching now and am thinking of packaging nathan and dicek for a stud SP to help address that weakness.

C: Posada
1: N Johnson or N Swisher
2: B Phillips
3: Youkilis
SS: Rollins
OF:Cruz
OF: Werth
OF: Quentin (DL), currently playing sheffield
U: Bonaficio or Swisher or Sheffield (when quentin gets healthy)

SP: Greinke, Dice K, Dempster, Richmond, Pavano, Bannister, Lohse
RP: Nathan, Franklin, Fransisco, Ziegler, Okajima
DL: Duchescherer, Percival

I like the trade, because Cruz and Manny will prob put up similar #''s now that manny is out(just not avg).

You upgraded your RP, however your are a little thin at SP(who knows how healthy volquez is)

I like trade, but you might want to do something about SP..

Help me out

I like this trade for you a lot, even more if you happened to divest yourself of Volquez at just the right time. Even without the possible injury, I still really like it for you; I think you improved your team quite a bit...... But I also agree with the other poster about needing some (a lot) of improvement in your rotation!

Hey, thanks for the help with mine. I like this deal, Francisco has more value than Volquez imo, and as the other poster mentioned Cruz and Manny will finish with similiar stats. I think you added some speed with Cruz and upgraded your closers significantly.

The trade makes sense for you but personally I think you might have been able to get more for Manny. Overall though it was a solid deal and I can't say you made a bad move. Since you're in 9th place it doesn't look like you have too great of a shot to win it this year, so moving an expensive Manny is probably the right move. For a 12 teamer you have a pretty solid offense. Maybe when Quentin comes back you should look to package Sheff or Swisher with one of your mediocre pitchers to upgrade pitching. Good luck.
